Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

"market of ideas" at Ischia Global Film & Music Fest

Italian-American screenwriter Bobby Moresco (2006 Oscar winner for the film Crash) will join colleagues Paul Haggis (also winner of two Oscars for Crash) and William Monahan (Oscar winner in 2007 for The Departed by Martin Scorsese) at the World Script Market, which will take place at the Regina Isabella Hotel in Ischia from July 9th to 15th.

The American writer will be the first of many international participants who will contribute to the “market of ideas” that the organizers of the fifth Ischia Global Film & Music Fest and Kimbo coffee have created with the aim of providing opportunities for the new generation of Italian filmmakers. The purpose of the “market” is to bring big international producers to Ischia in order to promote the co-production and co-distribution of Italian films.

Joining the famous American author, who will receive the Ischia Venice Casino Script Award, will be Brazilian screenwriters Braulio Mantovani (Oscar candidate for the screenplay of City of God by Fernando Mereilles) and Marcos Bernstein, along with the Tunisian screenwriter and director Mohsen Melliti (Special Fiuggi Prize), director of Me, the Other, the film in which Raoul Bova is not only actor (with Giovanni Martorana) but makes his producing debut as well.

Among the other participants who have confirmed their presence at the Ischia “Script Market” are producers Mark Canton (mastermind behind 300, so far the blockbuster hit of 2007), Lawrence Bender (who produced the Oscar-winning film by the environmentalist duo Guggenheim/Gore), Jeremy Thomas (Oscar for The Last Emperor), Avi Lerner (Rocky Balboa), John Penotti (president of Green Street Films), and among the Italians: Fabrizio Mosca, Nicola Giuliano, Claudio Bonivento, and Fulvio Lucisano, who just recently was able to do a remake of the film The Inquiry, thanks to the coveted co-production with his Israeli colleague Lerner.

The fifth Ischia Global Film & Music Fest is produced by the International Art Academy of Ischia and the Tourist Board of Ischia and Procida, with the support of the Regional Ministry fro Tourism of the Campania Region and the Film Board of the Italian Ministry of Culture. Chair of this year’s organizing committee is Canadian director and screenwriter Paul Haggis, winner of two Oscars in 2006 for the film Crash. This year’s program features special screenings, performances, encounters with artists, meetings with producers, and the classic Kimbo Cinema Forum to explore timely themes in depth.
