Maurice Jarre tribute to be given during EFA in Berlin

European Film Academy Honours Maurice Jarre
Special concert with Flemish Radio Symphonic Orchestra

As a highlight of the European Film Awards Weekend, the prestigious composers Bruno Coulais, Frédéric Devreese, George Fenton, Alberto Iglesias, Maurice Jarre, Zbigniev Preisner, Stephen Warbeck, and Gabriel Yared will be in Berlin for a special concert: On Friday, December 2, the Flemish Radio Symphonic Orchestra under Dirk Brossé will present La Musique de l'Image - European Film Composers in Concert with introductions by the composers at Berlin's Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.

During the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, December 3, Maurice Jarre will receive the award for EUROPEAN ACHIEVEMENT IN WORLD CINEMA 2005. Starting in the early 1950s, Jarre worked with directors of the Nouvelle Vague such as Alain Resnais and Georges Franju. Within the next decade, he composed the unforgettable music for such films as David Lean's LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and DOCTOR ZHIVAGO which brought him to international acclaim. Throughout his career, Maurice Jarre has worked with directors as diverse as William Wyler for THE COLLECTOR, Alfred Hitchcock for TOPAZ, John Huston for THE MACINTOSH MAN, David Lean again for A PASSAGE TO INDIA, Volker Schlöndorff for THE TIN DRUM, Peter Weir for DEAD POETS' SOCIETY and István Szabó for SUNSHINE.

The European Film Music Concert is presented in co-operation with the Flanders Film Festival Ghent, the Flemish Radio Symphonic Orchestra, the City of Ghent, the Province of East Flanders, the Flemish Government (Ministry of Media, Tourism and Foreign Affairs), and the diplomatic representation of the Flemish government to the German Federal Republic.
