Montréal Adventure film festival countdown began

OPENNING OF THE 5th MONTRÉAL INTERNATIONAL ADVENTURE FILM FESTIVAL - October 21 to 28, 2006

The countdown for the 5th Montréal International Adventure film festival began. Those who have a passion for open spaces, journeys off the beaten path and encounters in the four corners of the world or who seek to experience intense moments and powerful sensations will gather again this year for the 5th Montréal International Adventure Film festival (MIAFF) taking place October 21-28, at NBF Cinema and Marie-Gérin-Lajoie Hall (UQAM). The MIAFF, North America’s biggest film festival devoted to human and sporting adventure, offers a complete schedule of screenings, major presentations, a theme evening, exhibitions, debates, meetings and exhibitors.

An international competition
The 2006 MIAFF Official Selection comprises 32 short and feature-length films from France, Austria, Switzerland, the United States, Great Britain, Norway, Germany, Slovakia, Bermuda, Spain and, of course, Canada. Free flight on the Gaspé coast, 8000 km of cycling across Asia, a 58-day romantic idyll spent on the North Pole ice pack, a dream rally in the fjords of Norway, a trip to forbidden Tibet, traversing the Sahara at the 20th parallel, diving into the ancestral lakes of Afghanistan - and much more!

The MIAFF is a unique opportunity to see films from all over the world that will never be shown again!

Three major presentations that will draw you straight into a great adventure
The MIAFF will feature three internationally renowned speakers for whom adventure is a way of life. The films depicting their respective latest adventures are in the official competition and will be screened immediately after they speak.

RÉGIS GARRIGUE, DOCTOR AND MAN OF ADVENTURE
October 26, 7 p.m., MGL room (UQAM)
He is a physician, an adventurer and a film director. His profession and his passion bring him into daily contact with the limits of human endurance, suffering and determination. His film URGENCE AU SOMMET is a very human and sometimes shocking chronicle of a physician caught between the dream of reaching the summit and his medical duty in the course of a historic French expedition: the 50th anniversary of the first ascent of Everest. Presentation in French.

COLIN ANGUS, BEYOND THE HORIZON
October 27, 7 p.m., MGL room (UQAM)
100% extreme adventurer, journalist, author and film director Colin Angus lives intensely! He reveals the inside story of his most recent adventure: a journey around the world made entirely under his own power – 43,000 km, 2 oceans and 17 countries in 720 days! Presentation in English.
REGIS BELLEVILLE: A MAN OF THE DESERT October 28, 7 p.m., MGL room (UQAM)
Since early childhood, he has confronted the desert. This inveterate adventurer, author and film director was admitted to the prestigious Société des Explorateurs français in 2002. In 2004, he crossed the Sahara from east to west alone. His film LE SAHARA SUR UN FIL recounts a memorable adventure that led him to his very limits. Presentation in French.

Affordable pricing
Admission to the MIAFF is affordable for everyone. Prices range from $12 to $18 (taxes included) depending on the schedule for 3:30-4 p.m. screening periods! Enthusiasts can purchase the FESTIVAL PACKAGE for $70 (taxes included), which provides access to all screenings and speaker presentations. The morning of Saturday, October 28, those under the age of 16 will benefit from a special $6 rate when they buy their ticket at the site.

The 2006 MIAFF is presented by FONTAINE SANTÉ in collaboration with EXPÉDITIONS MONDE and MOUNTAIN HARDWEAR and with the participation of GITE DU MONT-ALBERT-PARC NATIONAL DE LA GASPÉSIE, LOWA and ESPACES magazine, the media partner of outdoors enthusiasts.
