Montreal’s RIDM docu highlights

Montreal’s international documentary film festival, the RIDM (Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal) is pleased to announce that TV, stage and screen actor Antoine Bertrand will be the spokesperson for its 12th annual event, which runs November 11-21.

The multi-talented Antoine Bertrand came to widespread attention as Junior in the television series Les Bougon, which also brought him a Gémeaux nomination. He has quickly become one of the most popular young actors in Quebec, drawing critical acclaim for appearances in the series Virginie and Caméra Café and playing a lead role in C.A.

As a film actor, Antoine Bertrand appeared in Borderline, Babine and The Necessities of Life, and will soon be seen in Château en Suède directed by Josée Dayan. On-stage, he appeared most recently in Appelez-moi Stéphane, Les Contes urbains and Honey Pie.

Bertrand is a long-time fan of documentary film and was enthusiastic about accepting the RIDM’s invitation to act as its spokesperson. “It’s a good thing we have documentaries to help us discover stories that are larger than life,” he says, “where the players are not always the same and the script changes once a second because real life is unpredictable.” Bertrand’s curiosity and charisma are sure to win new audiences for documentary at this year’s RIDM event.

Venues for the 12th RIDM include the Cinémathèque québécoise, the NFB Cinema, Cinéma Parallèle, the Hydro-Quebec Agora in the Cœur des Sciences building (UQÀM), the Grande Bibliothèque, the Segal Centre for Performing Arts, Concordia University (Cinema Politica), and the Goethe Institute. Outside Montreal, the RIDM continues to reach out to new audiences for documentary in the city of Quebec with a program of films screening in partnership with the Musée de la civilisation.
