THE EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY CREATES NEW AWARD FOR EUROPEAN COMPOSER

The European Film Academy (EFA) announced today that the European Film Awards 2004, taking place in Barcelona on December 11, will include a new award for best European film music: EUROPEAN COMPOSER 2004.

The award is presented in co-operation with the World Soundtrack Academy (WSA). The WSA’s European members have been invited to become members of the European Film Academy. Together with members of the EFA Board, WSA members will establish a committee for the nominations in the music category. The winner will be elected by the EFA members, currently 1,600 European film professionals.

British composer and EFA member Stephen Warbeck (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, BILLY ELIOTT) who has long advocated a music award says, „I think that the public are ready to consider music an important part of film. The award will mean that there will be greater dialogue between composers and other filmmakers.“

The European Film Awards 2004 will be taking place in Barcelona with the support of the Spanish Ministerio de Cultura, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ayuntamiento de Barcelona.
