Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

New York’s Asbury Shorts ,

Asbury Shorts , New York’s longest running annual exhibition of award winning independent short films, will present “A Evening of the World’s Best Short Films” on Saturday August 23rd @ 7:30pm in the historic Paramount Theater, on the boardwalk, in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The fast-paced
program will feature 2 short films by Jason Reitman, an Academy Award Nominee earlier this year for directing the mega hit feature film “JUNO.” Tickets cost $12 and will be sold as general admission. The evening of elite short films and live music is being presented by Jose Cuervo in association with Madison Marquette.
Other highlights of the 2-hour program include “SPIDER,” a jaw-dropper from Australian director Nash Edgerton which won the coveted “Audience Favorite” honor at the 54th Sydney
Film Festival and “ SUPER POWERS,” from Jeremy Kip Walker and John Mitchell, the Grand Prize Winner at SONY Tropfest in 2007. Mr. Reitman’s shorts include his latest “CONSENT,” which was a 3 time “Best of Show” Winner on the International festival circuit and former Sundance Festival honoree “IN GOD WE TRUST.” In addition to “JUNO” Mr. Reitman’s first feature film was the acclaimed “Thank You for Smoking.”
Asbury Shorts New York has been screening independent short films theatrically for the past 28 years. The exhibition is not promoted as a “festival” but more of an entertainment event
combining the absolute best in short film comedy, drama and animation with live music and special unannounced surprises. In the past, selected ASNY shows have been hosted by celebrities such as Edie Falco, Harvey Keitel, Olympia Dukakis, Adrian Grenier, Peter Gallagher and John Turturro, to name a few. The sole purpose of an ASNY presentation is to give the general public an opportunity to see major, award-winning shorts, selected from the world’s elite film festivals in a theatrical setting on the big screen...not a computer or ipod.
