Golden Bowl by James Ivory
One half of the award-winning team of Merchant Ivory, Ivory was
born in Berkeley, California. His credits include Heat and Dust
(1982), Room with a View (1986), Howard's End (1992)
and Remains of the Day (1993). Brief Description: James Ivory
brings Henry James' novel of unrequited love, jealousies and passion
in Victorian England vividly to life.

Inverso - Making Love by Ricky Tognazzi
Son of Maureen O'Hara and Ugo Tognazzi, Tognazzi is a multidimensional
filmmaker, director, screenwriter and actor. He received a David
Award for Best Director for La Scorta, which screened in
Palm Springs in 1994. Brief Description: A powerful violin concerto
reflects the life of its composer and carries the power to bring
back lost memories. Its haunting melody pervades the mysterious
identities of the protagonist as it confronts history with a passionate
plea for love to prevail over all obstacles and sacrifices.
Faithless
by Liv Ullmann
Ullmann began her acting career in theatre where she met director
Ingmar Bergman. Their lifelong collaboration resulted in such distinguished
work as The Shame (1968) and Scenes From A Marriage
(1973). As a director, Ullmann's credits include Sophie (1993)
and Private Confessions (1997). Brief Description: Based
on a real life event in Ingmar Bergman's life, Faithless
recounts the tragic events of three friends in a tale of passion
and infidelity.
Pollock
by Ed Harris
Born in 1950, Harris first received critical acclaim for The Right
Stuff (1983). His impressive body of work includes Places in
the Heart (1984), Apollo 13 (1995) and The Truman
Show (1998), both earning him Oscar nominations. Brief Description:
In his directorial debut, Academy Award nominated actor Ed Harris
presents the tortured, tempestuous life of Jackson Pollock, arguably
one of the greatest modernist painters of the last century.
Burnt Money by Marcelo Pineyro
Pineyro was born in Argentina where he studies at the University
of La Plata's School of Fine Arts. He acted as executive producer
on the very successful, The Official Story (1986). His other
film credits include Wild Tango (1993), and Paradise Ashes
(1997). Brief Description: Cops and robbers and lovers on the lamb,
but Bonnie and Clyde this is not. Three gangsters rob a bank truck
and flee the scene with blood on their hands and a bullet firmly
lodged in one of them.
Song of Tibet by Xie Fei
Fei is one of China's most prestigious directors and has won multiple
awards from film festivals around the world. His credits include
A Girl From Hunan (1987), Black Snow (1990), and A
Mongolian Tale (1995). Brief Description: When a young girl returns
home to visit her elderly grandparents, her grandmother shares the
secret story of her three great loves.
The
King's Daughters - Saint Cyr by Patricia Mazuy
The multi-award winning writer/director Mazuy began her career as
an editor with the legendary filmmaker Agnés Varda on the film Sans
Touit Li Loi (Vagabond) in 1985. Her other film credits include
Peaux De Vaches (1989) and Travolta And Me (1993).
Brief Description: Madame de Maintenon's misguided attempts to educate
the young ladies of her court ends in disaster in 17th century France.
Ave Maria by Eduardo Rossoff
Born in Mexico, Rossoff studied in San Diego and Paris before beginning
work as a cameraman in Europe for ABC. His producing credits include
The Kid Brother (1987) and Rough Magic (1995). Ave Maria
marks his directorial debut. Brief Description: Mexico 1649 - Maria
Inez, too brilliant for a woman for her time and too beautiful to
live unnoticed, rises up against the Catholic Church in defense
of the Mexican people.
The
Captain's Daughter by Alexander Proshkin
Proshkin studied acting at the Leningrad State Institute for Theater,
Music and Film. He has worked at the Leningrad Comedy Theater and
as a director for Central Television. His filmography includes:
The Cold Summer Of 1953 (1988), To See Paris And Die
(1992) and The Black Veil (1995). Brief Description: Based
on two Alexander Pushkin novels, this absorbing historical epic
is composed of equal parts star-crossed lovers, complex intrigues,
heated battles and, of course, the Russian winter.
Commonwealth
by Álex de la Iglesias
This entry marks de la Iglesia's fifth film. He believes in using
a minimum number of elements to achieve the most powerful results
and that laughter lends depth to drama. Brief Description: An unsuspecting
realtor stumbles into a bizarre community of unscrupulous neighbors
within a peculiar building that conceals a treasure each desires.
Dark aspects of human behavior emerge in this black comedy with
