Battle in Heaven
Mexico/France/Germany/Belgium, 2005, 98min, 35mm Color
Asian Premiere
Director Carlos REYGADAS

"I know you hate me, also I hate you as well" It is wining impression of Maurice Pialat in 1987 Cannes film festival. Some Audiences heard the news wining of (Sous le soleil de Satan) bantering about it, Maurice Pialat rejoined it. The similar happening nearly repeats again. Battle in Heaven was sent in for the competition section of the 58th Cannes film festival but fortunately did won an award. After staring a middle age man and a girl up and down, the scene show a sacred painting that roused up the dispute about sacrilegiousness. It divided audience into two. Audiences were enthusiastic or angry with description of sex. The critic and price are also the director's share. Marcos who is a driver of a general killing kidnapped child with his wife. He trembles for fear of his tragic life. He is annoyed by a ghost confessing that to beautiful Nana who sell her body for enjoyment. It is the beginning of ruin. The re-probation story is about people who confine in religion and their body in a society marked by violence and madness. The film that digs into the sexual and soul making a fool of man's trouble in lyrical screen. Reygadas who won the gold camera award by JAPON showing fastidious mise en scene. The director who declare survival of Mexican movie by severe but beautiful 〈Battle in Heaven〉 and 〈JAPON>, Carlos Reygadas. Please remember his name.
