Santiago Tabernero Directs the Fifth Edition of the Notodofilmfest.com

Tabernero, film and television director and scriptwriter, has taken the baton from Javier Fesser, promoter and director of the Festival’s previous editions, who will be a member of the jury this year.

As an innovation, Notodofilmfest.com will award prizes in three new categories: Documentary, Fiction and Animated Films. The prize for the best Triple Distillation Film continues.

A short film contest inspired by ideas from Rafael Azcona and a casting of actors and actresses will be held during the Festival.

Notodofilmfest.com will distribute 35,000 euros in prizes this year, including two scholarships to study at the New York Film Academy. The jury comprises Javier Fesser, Pablo Llorens, Jaume Balagueró, Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, Javier Corcuera, Matías Bize, Santi Amodeo, Rodrigo Cortés and Santiago Tabernero. Each jury member will make a film exclusively for the Festival.

Films can last no longer than three and a half minutes and cannot exceed 5 Mb. The length of films in the Triple Distillation category must be exactly 30 seconds.

With the participation of over 3,000 films and the distribution of 5,000,000 copies in the four previous editions, the Notodofilmfest.com Jameson Distilled Film Festival has become a point of reference for on-line film festivals.

More information available at www.notodofilmfest.com.

This morning the Fifth Edition of the Notodofilmfest.com Jameson Distilled Film Festival was presented. The Festival, which takes place entirely on Internet, offers a venue where new international film talents can present their shorts. The director this year is Santiago Tabernero, who has taken the baton from Javier Fesser. Films can be submitted on www.notodofilmfest.com from today, 24 October, through 10 January 2007 at 12 noon.

Alberto Fesser, president de Notodo.com, Danniel Cushnan, Jameson’s marketing manager, Santiago Tabernero, the Festival director, and Jim-Box, winner of the last edition, all attended the presentation of this fifth edition.

Alberto Fesser, president de Notodo.com, pointed out that with this fifth edition “Notodofilmfest.com has become a point of reference for on-line film festivals.” Fesser stated that the keys to the Festival’s success were the quality of the winning films, the prestige of the directors comprising the juries in each edition and the popularity Notodofilmfest.com has gained among new directors. He also emphasised that this Festival model “has brought down film production and distribution barriers with over 3,000 films submitted to the contest and 5,000,000 copies downloaded in the four previous editions.”

Jameson’s marketing manager, Danniel Cushnan, was very satisfied with the results achieved in the previous edition of Notodofilmfest.com and confirmed Jameson’s commitment to a Festival that fully coincides with the values of creativity transmitted by this brand.

A New Director for this New Edition
Santiago Tabernero, Notodofilmfest.com’s new director, expressed his pleasure at having been chosen to lead the Festival’s new edition. He faces this challenge with a “slight tremor in my legs”. A scriptwriter and film director, his first work, Life in Color, won him a nomination as Best New Director in the last edition of the Goya Awards. Tabernero has also directed several programmes for Televisión Española, including Versión Española and Carta Blanca, which are still on the air. Last week, Tabernero received the Best Film Project Prize at the International Cinema Festival of Rome for the script.

The director presented this edition’s most outstanding innovations. The first is that this year films will opt for prizes in three categories, Fiction, Documentary and Animation, in addition to the now traditional Triple Distillation Prize. “This way,” explained Tabernero, “we define the three great film genres.”

Furthermore, two activities will be included in the Festival that, in the words of its new director, “will enrich Notodofilmfest.com’s proposal”. On the one hand, Rafael Azcona will suggest three brief plot synopses, based on which contestants must develop their own films. The other activity is a multitudinous casting of actors and actresses who will then be entered into the database to be created on www.notodofilmfest.com.

Finally, the Festival will reinforce its international vocation by offering versions in Spanish and English of the www.notodofilmfest.com website and of the rest of the organisation’s communications. “Since its inception in 2001, Notodofilmfest.com has received films from 25 countries, it has worked with collaborators such as the New York Film Academy and film celebrities from all over the world have taken part in its jury, which confirms the Festival as a phenomenon with international dimensions,” assured Tabernero.

Prizes and Jury Members
The Festival director announced that Notodofilmfest.com will distribute 35,000 euros in prizes this year. These awards are as follow:

- Jury Grand Prize endowed with 15,000 euros plus a four-week scholarship at the New York Film Academy.
- Jury Best Fiction Film Prize endowed with 2,500 euros.
- Jury Best Documentary Film Prize endowed with 2,500 euros.
- Jury Best Animated Film Prize endowed with 2,500 euros.
- Jury Best Triple Distillation Film Prize endowed with 2,000 euros plus a one-week scholarship at the New York Film Academy.
- Audience Prize for the Best Film endowed with 1,000 euros and awarded by users of www.notodofilmfest.com.

To select the winners of the various categories, Notodofilmfest.com has formed a jury comprising directors who represent the cinema genres covered by the Festival. They are Santiago Tabernero, Javier Fesser, Pablo Llorens, Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, Jaume Balagueró, Javier Corcuera, Matías Bize, Santi Amodeo and Rodrigo Cortés. Each jury member will make a film exclusively for Notodofilmfest.com. These nine shorts will be shown during the course of the Festival on www.notodofilmfest.com.

A Community of Creators
The Notodofilmfest.com Jameson Distilled Film Festival is not only a point of reference for Internet film festivals, it is also undoubtedly a launching pad for new talents. Winners and nominated finalists of the four previous editions include such directors as Daniel Sánchez Arévalo (AzulOscuroCasiNegro), Nacho Vigalondo (7.35 in the Morning and Timecrimes) and Mario Iglesias (Madres).

During the press conference, Jim-Box, the winner of last edition’s Jury Grand Prize, who is currently working on new short film and advertising projects, explained that “Notodofilmfest.com helps to form a community of creators who are slowly becoming well known. Tomorrow’s leading filmmakers will probably have taken part in this Festival.”

Jim-Box, who has promised to surprise the public with his films for this new edition, also highlighted the Festival’s dissemination capability. “Thanks to Notodofilmfest.com, you can become a gladiator with a plastic sword who risks nothing and throws his short into the arena to let 10,000 lions tear it apart. The knowledge gained from spectator reviews,” he concluded, “is the most valuable experience.”

Rules of the Game
All new short film talents who are 18 years of age or older can participate in Notodofilmfest.com and join this community of creators. Any number of films can be submitted. The only requirements are that they cannot be larger than 5 Mb and their maximum length must be three and a half minutes. For the Triple Distillation category, shorts must last exactly 30 seconds. The films can be submitted between 24 October 2006 and 12 noon on 10 January 2007 in any of the following formats: .wmv, .mov or .swf.

Jameson and Distilled Films
Notodofilmfest.com is distilled cinema. The story is what is most important for us and therefore we strive to capture its essence. The secret is to set aside anything extraneous, distil what is most essential and therefore be able to communicate in three and a half minutes something that makes us laugh, shudder, enjoy or reflect.

In our fourth edition we decided to go even farther and see whether we were capable of distilling the essence of a story to the maximum, up to three times. A new category appeared, that rewarded by the best Triple Distillation Short prize, and its success was amazing. Exactly 276 thirty-second shorts were submitted and there were more than 278,000 downloads in this category.

Jameson represents what is most authentic in this distilled cinema. The secret of Jameson’s purity and smoothness is precisely its triple distillation. Whiskey was invented in Ireland and Jameson is its whiskey par excellence, pure Ireland. And that is why we are in Notodofilmfest.com, because we are authentic and want to support people who are also authentic.
