Shooting Stars honoured at Berlinale

Ten of the most promising young actors in Europe chosen as the SHOOTING STARS of 2009 by a film industry jury have concluded a whirlwind weekend of events at the Berlin International Film Festival with photosessions, casting director meetings, press conference and a glittering award ceremony and party on Monday 9 February.

Last night, actress Ziyi Zhang welcomed the ten actors onto the Berlinale-Palast stage to receive the SHOOTING STARS Award – sponsored by Studio Babelsberg, to celebrate their recent achievements.

The ten SHOOTING STARS were selected from an extensive list of candidates chosen by prominent industry figures, including Belgian director Marion Hänsel who said: “These actors represent the future of cinema and the 2009 jury hope the Berlinale experience serves them well, not only to raise their own profile but also to highlight the creative energy from the new generation of European filmmakers.”

After receiving their accolades, the SHOOTING STARS partied in style at one of Berlin’s unique venues, Goya, where they were joined by producers, directors and other festival guests.

SHOOTING STARS is supported by the MEDIA Programme of the European Union.

Recent interviews with the SHOOTING STARS are available on the Cineuropa website and in the trade dailies of The Hollywood Reporter and Screen International out of Berlin.
