Slamdance Primed to Ski Into Park City

Slamdance Primed to Ski Into Park City

The President and Co-Founder of Slamdance,
Peter Baxter, announced the titles selected for the 10th annual
Festival, as a raucous crowd cheered and applauded the filmmakers in
attendance.  Martini glasses and shots of
blue tequila were raised in their honor as more than 200 people listened to a
blend of spun and contemporary dance music while dining on tasty appetizers
provided by the Spanish Kitchen on La Cienega, Los Angeles, Ca host of this
fantastic event.

Eleven of the eighteen feature narratives
and documentaries announced will be world premieres at the Park City, Utah,
screenings to be held January 17 – 24, 2004.
The narratives range from an improvised play on the Enron scandal with Memron,
to Dear Pillow, in which a 17-year old supermarket bag boy finds a
mentor in a porno magazine writer.

The documentaries selected for the 2004
festival touch upon issues and cultural phenomena ranging from the sale of
blood tainted with HIV, in Factor 8: The Arkansas Prison Blood Scandal,
to a visual and acoustic portrait of a techno musician in Bruce Haack: The
King of Techno
.

Twenty-one short films will also be
screened that include animation and documentary films.  Provocative titles include: Away in a
Trailer
, The Fine Art of Poisoning, and MalaQueerche: Queer Punk
Rock Show
.   Filmmakers and guests
discussed plans for attending Slamdance in January, while some were already
hashing out plans for their next project.

The 2003 Slamdance Film Festival awarded
over $70,000 in cash and prizes.
Filmmakers in competition have their eyes set on more than snowboarding
while they are in Park City.  Already,
the 2004 Slamdance Film Festival is shaping up to be an eventful and memorable
festival of independent films on the cutting edge of cinema.  Slamdance Film Festival, Park City, Utah
