Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Taking the Sting Out

Although he was commissioned to create several songs for the upcoming Disney
animated feature The Emperor's New Clothes, Sting's songs will barely
be heard when the pic hits theaters this weekend. According to a Disney spokesman,
six songs were cut after the film became more of a comedy than a drama. Now,
a behind-the-scenes documentary about Sting's ordeal with the Mouse House is
set for release next year. Called The Sweatbox (produced by Sting's wife
Trudie Styler) the film shows the moment when Sting learned that his songs would
not be used. Ultimately, Sting agreed to write two new songs for the film, one
of which will be played during the closing credits.
