The 20-year anniversary for The Stockholm International Film Festival

The 20-year anniversary for The Stockholm International Film Festival is drawing closer! We can already present five films that will be screened during the festival in November. The first batch contains Andrea Arnolds award winning Fish Tank, Precious: Based on the novel ”Push” by Sapphire by Lee Daniels which have already garnered great acclaim, the winner of Un Certain Regard Dogtooth, this year’s American indie-darling Humpday by Lynn Shelton and Sebastián Silvas much talked about The Maid.

Since the start in 1990 The Stockholm International Film Festival have screened over 3000 films. Right now is the time to start thinking about the 20-year anniversary that takes place between 18-29 November.

The following films will be screened during the festival:

Fish Tank Andrea Arnold’s award winning coming of age-drama will have its Swedish premiere at the festival. Andrea Arnold won the award for best short film at The Stockholm Film Festival in 2003 for Wasp and last year male lead Michael Fassbender picked up the price for Best Actor.

Precious: Based on the novel ”Push” by Sapphire Lee Daniels strong drama about the 16-year-old Precious is both bleak and contains a shimmer of hope at the same time. The film is based on performance poet Sapphire’s controversial and much talked about novel that depicts Precious life in Harlem with devastating honesty.

Dogtooth This year’s winner of Un Certain Regard in Cannes is a shocking portrait of a family who raises and manipulates their children outside the real world big brother-style.

The Maid The festival continues its bid to promote good Latin American films in the Latino-section. The first film this year is Sebastián Silva’s black comedy The Maid that poses the question of what happens to a housekeeper after over 20 years of service in the same family.

Humpday Two straight friends decide to make an adult movie together in Lynn Shelton’s Bromance-comedy which drew laughter both in Sundance and Cannes.

20th Stockholm International Film Festival November 18-29 2009
The Stockholm International Film Festival started in 1990 and is today one of the leading competitive film festival in Europe. The festival takes place every year in November with more than 170 films from more then 40 countries. More than a festival: we organize exclusive screenings and the popular Summer Cinema - an outdoor mini-festival. Every year in April the Stockholm International Film Festival Junior brings the latest films to youngsters between 6 and 16 years of age.
