The 36th Dance on Camera Festival (DCF) 2008

The 36th Dance on Camera Festival (DCF) 2008, presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Dance Films Association (DFA) was held at the Walter Reade Theater, New York, January 2-6, 11, 18 and 19. The 2008 DCF New York Premiere film of WATER FLOWING TOGETHER, directed by Gwendolen Cates held at Lincoln Center, New York State Theater, Tuesday, January 7, 6:30 p.m., included two screenings at the Walter Reade Theater, on Friday, January 11 and 18, 8:30 p.m. A special Q&A immediately followed with Director Gwendolen Cates and New York City Ballet Former Principal Dancer Jock Soto, moderated by DFA Festival Co-producer, Joanna Ney, Selection Committee, Film Society of Lincoln Center.

WATER FLOWING TOGETHER is a triumphant documentary film, based on the life of Ballet Star Jock Soto. Born in New Mexico and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Soto is a Native American Navajo from the clan of To'aheedliinii (Water Flow Together) and Puerto Rican descent. This powerful film captures Soto's ancestral heritage and his God given talent, from hoop dancing at age three, to an outstanding New York City Ballet (NYCB) Principal Dancer that culminates in a farewell performance with NYCB. Today, Soto is a Faculty Member at the School of American Ballet (SAB), and oversees a food catering service with his partner Luis Fuentes.

WATER FLOWING TOGETHER, directed by Gwendolen Cates | USA | 2007 | 77min, is winner of 2008 Jury Prize Award, Dance on Camera Festival; 2007 Best Documentary Award, Imagine Native Film Festival, and 2007 Best Feature Award, Outfest Fusion Film Festival. The film airs nationally on PBS (Channel 13 / New York) Tuesday, April 8, 10:00 p.m. (ET). To check for local listings visit PBS Independent Lens.
