The Philadelphia Cinema Alliance Announces Danger After Dark Film Festival!

A festival within a
festival,
Danger After
Dark runs concurrently with QFest to showcase the best in action and horror

Danger After Dark, the long-running genre festival
programmed by Travis Crawford and presented by the Philadelphia Cinema Alliance
returns this summer. Running concurrently with QFest, Nine stunning films will
unreel at the Ritz East and Ritz Bourse. From the graphically gory and sexually
explicit to the formally experimental and just plain indescribably strange, Danger
After Dark Film Festival
will continue to push the boundaries of what you
can expect when you go to the movies. Danger After Dark Film Festival
will be taking place during this year’s QFest and running July 8 – July 18.

Everyone loves a little horror and action. But this
year, Danger After Dark seeks to test the boundaries of what cinema can
accomplish, and the limits of the audience with the following nine films:

Bangkok
Knockout
(Thailand 2011, 107 min):
The bone-crunching, butt-kicking Thai martial arts film to end them all, this
action epic from the stuntman behind the Ong Bak series will leave you
beautifully bruised.

Birthright (Japan 2010, 108 min): This taut, intense
psychological thriller about kidnapping and fractured family ties explores the
mysterious and vicious bond between three women.

Finisterrae
(Spain 2010, 80 min): This award-winning Spanish mix
of high art and low comedy is an indescribably odd
portrait of two ghosts wandering though a surreal landscape.

In a Glass
Cage
(Spain 1987, 110 min): One of the most
disturbing films ever made (warning: we’re not kidding), this 1987 Spanish
shocker returns in a beautifully digitally restored, newly translated/subtitled
35mm print.

The
Innkeepers
(USA 2011, 100min): A masterful exercise
in suspense, this film finds Delaware native- turned-horror auteur Ti West
exploring the Shining-like environment of a creepy hotel, in beautifully
scary fashion.

Karate-Robo
Zaborgar
(Japan 2011, 101min): Mind-blowing special effects,
outrageous comedy, and a wild story of multi-generational robot-human love make
this Japanese genre- bender a cinematic party.

Milocrorze,
A Love Story
(Japan 2011, 95 min): The kind of Danger After Dark
film that defies description, Milocrorze is visually stunning, utterly
original, and wildly funny. Think Survive Style 5+. SPECIAL GUEST
director Yoshimasa Ishibashi will be on hand during the July 8th
screening for a Q & A – don’t miss it!

Phase 7 (Argentina, 2010, 95 min): Equal parts
horrific and hilarious; this apocalypse love story from Argentina is a hugely
entertaining genre parody and also a genuinely suspenseful horror film.

Point Blank (France 2010, 84 min): A breakneck-paced,
high-concept French thriller about an innocent man trying to save his kidnapped
wife, this film hits the ground running and never stops.
