Time For Peace Film & Music Awards nominees

Celebrating their 17th anniversary, the prestigious Time For Peace Film & Music Awards, founded by Marion and Robert Einbeck, will be this year devoted exclusively to music and films from Europe.

It is with this in mind that the European cinematographic and musical works were selected based on criteria of high artistic quality but also on those of humanist values, such as tolerance, respect for difference, solidarity, care provided to others, better understanding between peoples, freedom of expression, and so forth.

The Awards Nominations chosen with the cooperation of professionals in the film and music industry have been presented to the jury committee composed of 19 ambassadors to the Council of Europe.

The ceremony and Concert Dinner take place at the European Parliament, on Thursday January 26, 2012. The evening is planned to be introduced by Mr. Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament.

Cocktails begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. in the Member Club, with the awards presentation immediately following at 8:00 p.m. The dinner is prepared by 2 super stars Chef Alain Llorca who will come especially from the South of France and the evening will be attended by 150 to 200 major figures and celebrities from the film and music industries and diplomatic world, and other special guests, to be announced. A projection of clips of the film will be made before the presentation of each award. Musicians and singers will perform one or several pieces of music and/or songs in honor of each award recipient before the prize is presented to the individual artist. For instance, some of the artists who participated in the past were Stevie Wonder, the Dave Brubeck Quartet, Joshua Bell, and Serguey Khachatryan, to mention only a few. Each prize is presented by an artist together with one of the ambassadors member of the jury committee.

Since 1994, in New York, the following European filmmakers have been awarded with European Time for Peace Film Awards: Bernard Bellefroid for La Régate (The Boat ace); Roberto Benigni for La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful); John Carney for Once; Anthony Fabian for Skin; Florian Gallenberger for John Rabe; Tony Gatlif for Korkoro (Liberté); Mark Herman for The Boy in the Striped Pajamas; Caroline Link for Beyond Silence (Jenseits der Stille); Philippe Muyl for Magic; Michael Radford for Il Postino; Alexander Sokurov for Alexandra; Jan Sverák for Kolya; and Michael Winterbottom for A Mighty Heart…

In music the European Time for Peace Music award has gone to artists such as Charles Aznavour for “Colore Ma Vie” (Color My Life); Sting for “If on a Winter’s Night…” and Charles Trenet for his lifetime achievement.

It is the mission of the Time for Peace Film & Music Awards to show that films and music can – through works of high artistic quality – be bearers of values and raise human consciousness.

In addition, the Time for Peace Film & Music Awards are working on building a data base that will bring together films of high artistic quality with humanist values and/or an ethical significance. Film notes written by film directors and supplemented with commentary by psychologists will be used to teach in a playful manner and serve as a pedagogical tool in the education of adolescents. Pilot programs will follow soon thereafter and be put in place in various countries.
