Films that push boundaries and challenge notions of mainstream cinema.

VANGUARD

Films that are youthful and irreverent; the cutting edge of contemporary life.

Equal parts black humour and bloody dementia, Cold Fish (Sion Sono) is the true story of a Japanese fish dealer who was responsible for more than 40 murders.
The worlds of a mob enforcer, an escaped convict and an ambitious young business student collide in the explosive thriller Easy Money (Daniel Espinosa).
A bold example of new North African cinema, Microphone (Ahmad Abdalla) remixes fiction and cinema verité as it follows an Egyptian expatriate's exploration of Alexandria's thriving music and arts scene.

Based on a true incident where a group of monks were killed in Algeria in 1995, Of Gods and Men (Xavier Beauvois) follows the spiritual lifestyle of the priests and the events that lead to the confrontation with a group of insurgents.
Jucy (Louise Alston) follows Jackie and Lucy, best friends who spend all their time together, although not everyone approves of their "womance."

A documentary on Shanghai, I Wish I Knew (Jia Zhangke) portrays a chapter of modern Chinese history through interviews and scenic views of a city in continuous evolution.
