TRICKS will open the Warsaw Film Festival

TRICKS by Andrzej Jakimowski, awarded at Venice today, will open the 23rd Warsaw International Film Festival on Friday, October 12.
TRICKS got two awards: the Europa Cinemas Label, given by a Jury of European exhibitors, and Laterna Magica Award. The Europa Cinemas network, supported by MEDIA Plus Programme of the European Union, includes 479 cinemas in 29 countries. The award has a concrete dimention - Europa Cinemas created a mechanism to encourage its members to screen the awarded film.
The Jury said in a statement, “This is a director with real promise, maintaining the long and proud tradition of great Polish cinema. TRICKS is a touching and intimate look at everyday working class life in the Polish countryside, an emotive insight into the new Europe. Jakimowski´s direction of his cast is particularly impressive, as is the cinematography by Adam Bajerski.”
The film, presented at Giornate degli Autori / Venice Days, was produced by Jakimowski's own company ZAiR, coproduced by Wytwornia Filmow Dokumentalnych i Fabularnych, Telewizja Polska S.A., Canal+ Cyfrowy, Opus Film, supported by Polish Film Institute. Polish theatrical release by Kino Swiat is scheduled for October 26.
The full programme of WIFF will be announced at the press conference September 25, 2007.
