Tucson Film & Music Festival Announces Centerpiece

Upstairs Film is excited to announce the centerpiece and closing night films selected to screen at the Tucson Film & Music Festival (TFMF) on Columbus Day Weekend, October 9-12, 2008. TFMF events will take place at various venues throughout charming downtown Tucson, including The Screening Room, The Rialto, The Loft Cinema, and PLUSH.

Now in its fourth year of showcasing both music and music-related film content with an emphasis on AZ and the Southwest, TFMF will feature Arizona, US and World premieres culled from hundreds of entries, as well as live music. Living up to its billing, TFMF '08 bridges the art of film and music more so than ever before.

TFMF will be headquartered at PLUSH (www.plushtucson.com), a dynamic and comfy lounge in the heart of downtown Tucson. In addition to networking opportunities, filmgoers may partake of PLUSH's daily drink specials and hear live music (presented by Stateside and TFMF) by Margot & The Nuclear So and So's (Friday) and Bang Camaro with Gram Rabbit and Sound And Fury (Saturday).

The Screening Room (127 E Congress St) will host the festival's centerpiece film "Nowhere Now: The Ballad of Joshua Tree" at 5:30pm on Saturday, October 11th. Aligning perfectly with the TFMF pedigree, the film, directed by Don DiNicola, documents the eclectic, non-conformist desert music-scene of Joshua Tree, CA, and features musical artists Victoria Williams, Eric Burdon, Gram Parsons, and more. "Nowhere Now" featured artists will be showcased at PLUSH on both Friday, October 10th (The Sibleys), and Saturday, October 11th (Gram Rabbit).

TFMF closing night events begin at The Loft (3233 E Speedway Blvd) on Sunday, October 12th at 7:30pm, with the Southwest premiere of "Nerdcore For Life." The documentary profiles Hip Hop's latest internet-born subgenre, Nerdcore. Spotlighting the "Geek Life's" biggest boasters, the film features interviews and performances from MC Chris (Aqua Teen Hunger Force), YTCracker, MC Lars, Doc Popular and more. A Q & A with the film's director Dan Lamoureux and other special guests will follow. The festival concludes with the TFMF closing night party at PLUSH, featuring exclusive live performances by artists featured in "Nerdcore For Life."
