Why Ukraine from Bernard-Henri Lévy new documentary on War in Ukraine

Image

Paris, the evening of June 22 – a French journalist, writer, and philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy premiered a documentary movie called "Why Ukraine?"

In this movie, Lévy depicts the war in Ukraine as it has been unfolding after Russian invasion on February 24. The author stresses: "The war of Ukrainians is also our war. Their defeat will be our defeat. Ukraine can't lose, and for that, it needs help."

The movie trailer:

Ukrainian producer of media and film projects Natalia Hryvnyak, who helped create the film with her team, said: “The war in Ukraine didn’t start on the 24th of February. It started 8 years ago in 2014. At first there were great awareness about the war and great support from the world. But then lack of persistence, attention and international pressure led to the fact that Russia invaded Ukraine and is brutally killing Ukrainians now. And this movie is like our voice, which shows what is Ukraine and what is Russia. It shows that war is going on and each of us can act to stop it.”

Wives and family of some of those Ukrainian defenders—who are currently prisoners of war—also visited the premiere. They addressed the world community, urging them to help get in touch with their dear ones and, ultimately, save them:

“_It took 86 days, but the world managed to rescue our men. It’s not enough for now, they are still not with us. Up to this day, all we know is that the defenders of Mariupol are in a pre-trial detention center on the territory controlled by the Russian Federation. But what are their living conditions? Are they cared for enough? We ask all these questions over and over again,no one knows the answers.

And Russia doesn't care. It only continues to produce fakes about our heroes to reinforce propaganda for its people. The courts under Russia’s control recently sentenced two British men and a Moroccan to death. The Geneva Convention could not stop them in this decision. Now we ask the world to do everything possible to save our Azovstal defenders' lives and return the heroes to their homeland”_.

Earlier, numerous art performances and messages were spread around the world that also informed people of war. Some of them helped Ukraine, the UN and the Red Cross to negotiate and initiate the evacuation process of 2,500 Azovstal defenders. Since May 18, there are no independently confirmed facts revealing their physical conditions as they remain Russia’s POWs.
