The Recent Cinema from Spain exhibition series presents to Miami today's best films from Spain. Pa Negre, No tengas miedo, Primos, Héroes, Blackthorn, Tres metros sobre el cielo and 5 metros cuadrados are the Spanish films chosen for this exhibition. This Seventh Art showcase will feature appearances by leading figures in the Spanish film industry, who have contributed significantly to putting "Made in Spain" productions at the vanguard of filmmaking worldwide.

An initiative of the Spanish Audiovisual Producers' Rights Management Association (using the Spanish acronym "EGEDA"), Recent Cinema from Spain aims to provide a new outlet for promotion of Spanish cinema in the United States, boosting its circulation to the public in general, and the international audiovisual industry.

The international prestige and evaluation of Spanish cinema has been steadily growing in recent years. Spanish films, actors, directors, and technical experts are getting top awards, and movie theaters around the world enthusiastically receive these cinema personalities. Through the projections and their talks and presentations, this exhibition, which aspires to be the main event for Spanish cinema in Miami and a must on the city's cultural calendar, will allow American, especially Latino, audiences to get in touch directly with filmmaking that is rich in genres and nuances.

The exhibition is taking place at the prestigious Olympia Theater, a marvelous auditorium with seating for 1,567 persons at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, opening with a special screening of the film which Spain, through the Spanish Film Academy, is presenting Pa Negre as its nominee for the 2012 Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film. This film will premiere in Miami, the leading city for Spanish-language entertainment, only a few days after its Los Angeles debut, giving it a powerful launch ramp on its way to the coveted Oscar Awards.

EGEDA is a not-for-profit service organization which manages copyright for audiovisual producers, managing in their name those rights which are unfeasible to manage on an individual basis. EGEDA also provides various services to the producers and the audiovisual industry overall. The association represents and defends the interests of audiovisual producers in Spain and Latin America and is especially active in the field of intellectual property rights management.

The exhibition has collaboration from the Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), one of the leading film festivals in the United States, produced and presented by Miami Dade College, the Spanish Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), a branch of the Spanish Ministry of Culture, and the Olympia Theater at the Gusman Center, where the screening of the films will take place. The theater is a renowned jewel of South Florida arts and entertainment facilities, giving even more magic and glamour to this grand event.
