Danes Descend On London
Friday, October 12-----------The Danes are coming, the Danes are coming!!!! Following impressive line-ups in previous years, Danish cinema once again has a strong and diverse presence at The Times bfi 51st London Film Festival 2007. Seven films have been selected as part of this year’s program, including four features, two animated shorts for younger audiences, and one short film. Denmark ’s world-renowned production company Zentropa Films (which launced the Dogme revolution and produced the films of, among others, Lars Von Trier) returns with two films: ECHO is the second film by Anders Morgenthaler, whose controversial debut feature PRINCESS was one of the most buzzed titles at last year's Cannes Film Festival. Also from Zentropa is ISLAND OF LOST SOULS, director Nikolaj Arcel’s follow up to KING'S GAME, a major international hit in 2005. Paprika Steen, one of Denmark’s best-known actresses thanks to her roles in FESTEN, THE IDIOTS and OPEN HEARTS, returns to the Festival in THE SUBSTITUTE, directed by Ole Bornedal, and in her own directorial project WITH YOUR PERMISSION. Last, but not least, Susanne Bier, one of international cinema's most lauded contemporary talents, will showcase her first English Language film, THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE, starring Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro.
