Sneaky Snake: Lost In The Holy Land to screen at NYIIFVF

One wouldn't expect a harmless sock-puppet snake to challenge the stormy topic of circumcision in the world's holiest city, Jerusalem.  But that's just what happens in the hilarious short film, "Sneaky Snake: Lost In The Holy Land."

The six-minute film's germination began in a cab ride after filmmakers and piano bar entertainers George Sanders and Shawn Curran toured Jerusalem.  "We'd never been to Israel, and Jerusalem was mind-blowing," says Sanders. "We noticed such a diversity of culture, language, costume, music and religion --- all co-existing side-by-side," says Sanders.  "We asked our cab driver how this was possible.  The driver replied, 'We get along fine for the most part.  After all, we're all praying to the same God!'  Then the driver added,  'But those people in India, praying to a cow?  That's just me shuga!'"

And that's when the comedy duo brainstormed and shot the video with a camcorder the next day.  In the film, sock-puppet Sneaky Snake searches for a bacon-cheeseburger in the Holy City of Jerusalem.  Along the way, he meets a Rabbi, a Catholic Priest, and a Mullah, each determined to remove a particular piece of his anatomy.  In a visionary tour-de-force of the spianism, Sneaky plays all the roles.

Worldwide, the short has won seven "Best Film" awards (including "Audience Choice" and "People's Choice," and one for "Integral Realization" in Granada, Spain), and has led to deals with Spice Factory Films, Mini Movie.Com and Quat Media.

Sanders and Curran began shooting Sneaky Snake films after the puppet became popular in their live music and comedy act, which appears weekly at Don't Tell Mama, New York's premiere piano bar.

Join Sanders, Curran, and Sneaky Snake, himself, at the NYIIFVF red carpet screening of "Sneaky Snake: Lost In The Holy Land," Monday, March 23rd at 6PM at City Cinemas Village East (Screen 6), 181 2nd Ave at 12th St., NYC, NY.
