Riff Kicks off Today

Reykjavík International Film Festival kicks of today. This years opening film is Land Ho!, a collaboration between Iceland and the U.S.  Before the screening the yearly "Gusan" will take place. Gusan ( the splash)  is best described as a message from the Icelandic film industry to the government. Ása Hjörleifsdóttir has this years Gusa.

Over one hundred films will be screened at this years festival. Italian films are this years focus point  along with 12 international films that will be competing for this years Golden Puffin. Many short films will be screened this year and like in the past years there are a lot of Icelandic shorts that have done very well on international ground.

This years honorary guests are Mike Leigh and Ruben Östlund. A nordic premiere of Leigh’s  film Mr. Turner is scheduled for the 29th of September. Some of his older work will also be screened at this year festival. Our other honorary guest is Ruben Östlund, a critically acclaimed Swedish director. His latest film Force Majeure,  as well as some of his older work will also be screened.

The festival starts on the 25th of September and ends on October 5th.
