The Opening night of Hola Mexico Film Festival in Hollywood
was in the best Mexican spirit of laughter and music. On the Red Carpet  were Alvaro Curiel (Acorazado), José Antonio Zuñiga Rodríguez (Presunto Culpable), Jaime Camil (Salvando al Soldado
Perez
), Graciela
Beltrán
(Recording Artist), Yareli Arizmendi (Un día sin mexicanos), Damián Alcázar (El Infierno, De la Infancia,
Chicogrande
),
Jazmin Lopez
(Recording Artist), Diego Schoening (ex Timbiriche), Gustavo Galindo (Recording Artist), and many more filmmakers and celebrities.

The Los Angeles Consul General of Mexico spoke to the packed
house at the Teatro Montalban which would have made one of my favorite actors,
Ricardo Montalban proud and the response from the crowded theatre where all I
saw were smiles on everyone’s faces. I fell more in love with the Mexican
people and culture after I had lived in Mexico
and worked for Televisa as a writer/actor for a Telenovella called “Forever”.
When you live there for one year you really get to appreciate Mexico
and its people. So for me, tonight was homecoming and my fiancé who is a Latina
was so excited to be part of this celebration.

The US
premiere of “Acorazado “directed by
Alvaro Curiel had the audience rollicking in their seats. Actor Silverio
Palacios is a true comic genius who can make you laugh or cry in an instant. He
shares his soul on the screen as this unemployed Mexican who desires the
American Dream and so he creates this raft with his VW bug and sails off to Miami
and we disguise himself as a Cuban seeking political asylum. Unfortunately he
loses his sense of direction and winds up in Havana,
Cuba. With a very
talented supporting cast in Cuba
and Mexico the
story has many flavors to savor and you feel like you are seeing inside of
these countries in the most truthful way.

In addition to the film the offerings of my favorite Mexican
foods and of course no evening would be complete without free Tequila.

I have seen many of the films so please take this
opportunity to see these films which will touch your hearts and your roots.

Presunto Culpable
(Presumed Guilty), De la infancia
(From Childhood)

, El Infierno (Hell), Asalto al cine
(The Cinema Hold Up), Chico
Grande
,

Te presento a Laura
(Introducing Laura), Acorazado
,

Las Marimbas
del Infierno
(Marimbas from Hell)

Tin Tan  ,Sin ella (Without her) , Seguir
Siendo Café Tacvba
,

Somos los que hay
(We are what we are)

In addition the film “Go For It” is playing locally and is
one of my best film choices of the year.
