Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Ron Gilbert

I am now living in the heart of the film industry and have been involved in the film and theates industry for almost 50 years.I started out in New York City which was where the acting scene at the Actors Studio (I am a lifetime member) included Robert DeNiro,Dustin Hoffman ,Al Pacino,Robert Duval and other name actors like Martin Landau ,Rod Steiger,Shelley Winters,Paul Newman,Ben Gazzara and the list goes on. That was then and the picture has changed. A stage play in New York names a name Hollywood actor to make a profit. The independent film scene has also changed. Steven Soderbergh commented on that recently at the San Francisco International Film Festival and major companies have taken over the studios.

I still work as an actor in commercials,TV and mostly independent films. I ahve worked with the major directors like Francis Ford Coppola,Sydney Lumet, and  Bryan Singer whom I met on his first feature and the relationship is same even now.

Currently I can be seen on reruns, commercials, short films and indie films.

We are currently shooting this web series

Writers Boot Camp Kicks butt in a creative way

Writers Boot Camp Kicksbutt in a creative way

Ihad met Jeffrey Gordon and Mitch Rubman at their NATPE LATV seminar and eventhough I knew that they have been around for 21 years and have an incredibletrack record for writers, I was even more impressed after listening to Jeff’spresentation on TV Spec scripts and pilots. I felt that it was very importantto share their knowledge. Jeff just plugs you right into the here and now andwants your script to be a winner. He just lays in the groundwork and much moreallowing you to explore not just writing your script but selling it. What isthe current trend and how can your project fit in? His suggestions areinvaluable. So when he invited me to their breakfast  event with Ron Taylor, vice president of DiversityDevelopment for 20th Century Fox TV , I thought “What better way tostart the day”? Mark Brennan opened the seminar with a friendly greeting and youknew that this was the start of a good day

Iwill give you a brief synopsis of what I heard but I would really suggest thatyou do yourself a big favor and go the next one to see for yourself. First off,the room was packed and the event lasted for 3½ hours and could have gone on even longerbecause of their generosity. This is a hands on event and you will leave with afull stomach and mind filled with creative ideas. The discussion included infoon how to pitch executives, product integration and the most important elementsneed to sell your show. What you need to do to exploit your talents and come upwith a script that will attract audiences because the bottom line is that thenetworks want product that attracts advertisers and make them money.

WritersBoot camp gives you free script evaluation for life and so many perks that I amnot able to list them all

In truth, Jeff is like the good dad who wantshis children to be successful and will support them in any way he can torealize their dreams as a writer. Mark and Mitch are your favorite uncles whowant your future to be rosy and bright
