Campanella´s `Futbolin´ to open San Sebastian Festival

At its opening gala on 20 September, the 61st edition of the San Sebastian Festival will present the international premiere, out-of-competition, of Futbolín, an animated film directed by Juan José Campanella.

Metegol is the original title of this Argentinian movie that has become a real blockbuster with over 1.365.944 spectators in its third week and obtained better figures than The Smurfs 2 for example.

Futbolín is a game known as table football or foosball (USA).

It comes as a surprise having an animated film to open the San Sebastian Film Festival. It´s the first time and now joins Cannes Festival (Shrek 2 and Up) betting on different films and reaching all kind of viewers.

Oscar winner Juan José Campanella returns to the San Sebastian Fest where he presented The secret of his eyes the film that made him win the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and Goya for the Best Spanish Language Foreign film in 2010.

Futbolín is a Spain-Argentina animation co-production in stereoscopic 3D. This ambitious project is produced by Plural-Jempsa and Atresmedia Cine in Spain, Jorge Estrada Mora Producciones in Argentina, in association with Cien Bares and Catmandú, and enjoys the participation of Canal +, Antena3, La Sexta and Telefé. The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures International Spain.

Juan José Campanella (Argentina-Spain)

Amadeo lives in a small, faceless town. He works in a bar, plays table football better than anyone and is in love with Laura, but she doesn't know it. His simple routine falls to pieces when Grosso, a young local boy turned best football player in the world, returns determined to take revenge for the only game he has ever lost in his life. With the table football, the bar and even his soul in pieces, Amadeo discovers something magical: the players in his beloved table football speak, and plenty! Together they set out on an adventure-packed voyage to save Laura and the village; and to become a real team as they go. But does football have a place for miracles?
