"Mongol, The Untold Story of The Rise of Genghis Khan"

"Greatness Comes to Those Who Take It!" "Mongol" is an influential historic epic depicting the life of Genghis Khan, from the years 1192(The Year of the Black Rat) -1206(The Year He Was Made Khan of the Mongols). Aside: Genghis Khan's actual lifespan was from 1162-1227, living to be 65 years old. The film is directed by Sergei Bodrov, and produced by Bob Berney, of "Picturehouse", and was nominated for "Best Foreign Language Film" at "The 80th Annual Oscar Awards" along with "Beaufort", "Katyn", "12", and the winner, "The Counterfeiters".

Q~"What was the biggest challenge you faced while shooting the film?"
A~Sergei Bodrov: "It took 25 weeks to shoot, but over 4 years to make, and EVERYDAY was a challenge. We were in remote locations, where we had to rebuild the roads. We had a huge crew and a lot of production problems. It would have been impossible to make it alone. We had 400 Chinese, 200 Mongolians, 200 Russians, they all wanted to attend, but (jokingly) they had problems obtaining their visas." "It is a 2 hour film, it is a war movie, but it's a love story also. I love the last 5 minutes, and we have a secret weapon/surprise for the party". The after party was held at "The Rubin Museum of Art" at 150 West 17th St.

Q~"What future projects are you working on?"
A~"Drunken Sailor", and "Baksy", being filmed in Kazakhstan.

Q~(Directed to Bob Berney) "What was it like to work with Sergei?
A~"It was a dream. He is a master artist, a prisoner of thought, a friend, a great film director, and hillarious".

Q~"What are some of the challenges presented to you as the producer?"
A~"Will Americans accept a subtitled film as a large audience film, as opposed to just a small art film?"

Bob went on to introduce the Ambassador from Mongolia who shared the following:
"It is with great honor to be at today's NY Premiere by Sergei Bodrov. I would like to thank him sincerely for doing a film about a man of the millenium. We are proud of Genghis Khan, he was our forefather and we are his descendents. Very intriguing. He conquered two/thirds of the world, and introduced religious tolerance, free trade, and fundamental attributes of state craftsman. He was a genius, a militaristic strategist who introduced diplomatic immunities and women's rights. It was in 1206, the Qing Dynasty Emperor GaoZong Qian Long, when he celebrated statehood. Ghenghis Khan's legacy is very intriguing and although many scientists have white spots, today's movie, created by Sergei, tries to fill in white spots. I wish you all a happy journey into Genghis Khan's life."

"Do not scorn a weak cub, he may become a killer tiger". "A woman has to have strong legs in order to make a man happy." "You need a horse more than a woman." . "Don't tell anyone we went to war over a woman." "Thunder means that our God is angry". "I had no place to hide from the thunder, so I wasn't afraid anymore."
