Slamdance Doc: RED W/O BLUESunday, January 21-- I applaud the Slamdance documentary programmers for selecting the fascinating film RED WITHOUT BLUE, directed by Brooke Sebold, Benita Sills, and Todd Sills. After several screenings at the Sundance Film Festival Sunday, I walked up Main Street to the screening rooms of Slamdance and into the World Premiere of RED WITHOUT BLUE. At this point I vaguely remembered why I wrote this movie down on my screening grid. I actually wasn't even quite sure what it was about. However, within minutes of watching this film, I was reminded why I love Park City this time of year. Film Festivals provide an outlet for first-time, independent filmmakers to showcase their unique and invigorating work among film buffs, filmmakers, and industry executives. This raw, touching, and deeply intimate story took me on an emotional journey on gender and identity that I will not soon forget. RED WITHOUT BLUE focuses on the relationship between twins, Mark and Alexander, and how their bond remains as strong as ever despite Alexander's transformation into Clair. The twin's painful experiences include: a suicide attempt, drug abuse, homosexuality, and transformation.
