Baltic Event, taking place since 2002 during the Black Nights Film Festival Industry@Tallinn program, is the largest co-production platform in the region of Northern and Central Europe and the best place to meet the North-Eastern European film industry. With a complete overview of the year’s audiovisual production in the region and a range of programmes open for feature film projects, Baltic Event is THE place to be in November.

Baltic Event highlights intriguing and challenging projects from the most professional producers and promising directing talents in the region. The guest list includes representatives of esteemed international sales and distribution companies, broadcasters, festivals, national, regional and international film funds as well as experienced producers. Projects from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, non-EU countries Russia, Georgia and Ukraine, and one focus country from outside the region are eligible.

The Best Project at Co-Production Market receives 20 000 Euros worth of Co-Production Development Support from Eurimages, Cannes Producers’ Network provides free accreditations to their next year’s edition for two young promising producers, and Screen International covers the life-cycle of the film that wins the Best Pitch vote.

Baltic Event Co-Production Market has presented a grand total of 140 projects since its launch and is proud to admit that 58 of these projects have been completed and dozens are still on the road of development or various stages of production. Over the years, our projects have enjoyed notable success at international film festivals and the box office.

During a decade, BE Co-Production Market has helped realize films such as 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (Cristian Mungiu, Romania 2007), Little Robbers(Ivo Kalpenieks, Latvia/Austria 2009), The Temptation of St. Tony (Veiko Õunpuu, Estonia/Sweden/Finland 2009), Princess (Arto Halonen, Finland 2010), King of Devil’s Island (Marius Holst, Norway/France/Sweden/Poland 2010), Koko And The Ghosts (Daniel Kusan, Croatia 2011), In the Fog (Sergei Loznitsa, Ukraine/Russia/Germany/Latvia/Netherlands 2012), Mother, I Love You (Janis Nords, Latvia 2013), Blind Dates (Levan Koguashvili, Georgia 2013), Under Electric Clouds (Alexey German, Russia/Ukraine/Poland 2015), The Fencer (Klaus Härö, Finland/Estonia/Germany 2015) and many others.

Taking place during the A-category Black Nights Film Festival in the medieval town of Tallinn, Baltic Event has become a favourite with many industry professionals and will hopefully attract many more.

About Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

Started in 1997, the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival has grown into one of the biggest film festivals in Northern Europe and busiest regional industry platforms, hosting more than 1000 guests and industry delegates and over 160 journalists. The festival screens around 250 features and more than 300 shorts and animations and sees an attendance of 80 000 people annually. In 2017 the festival was covered in 71 languages with a potential global media audience of over 1.1 billion people.

As of 2014 the festival holds the FIAPF accreditation for holding an international competition programme which puts the festival into the so- called A-category of film festivals, alongside other 14 festivals in the world (including Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Karlovy Vary, San Sebastian, Shanghai, Tokyo etc).

Black Nights has an umbrella structure with two sub-festivals PÖFF Shorts and youth and children's film festival Just Film taking place concurrently with the main festival,
two off-season festivals - Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival and Tartu Love Film Festival - and a fully-fledged film industry platform Industry@Tallinn, organised jointly with the Baltic Event Co-production market.
