Cairo Time on Aruba Time

Cairo Time on Aruba Time!

Ruba Nadda and Patricia Clarkson on red carpet at Aruba IFF.

The night before their premier, we met at the Aruba Golf Resort at The Burning Plain after party and over all-you-can-Mumms, I spoke with them both about their experience filming entirely on location in Cairo. In the presence of flipping and twirling Aruba Carnivalesque stage dancers- a truly Lynchian moment- they told me how marvelous and exciting their experience in Cairo was.

From the looks of their laughing eyes and pure enjoyment at the festival, it appears that both of these women have loved every minute of making this film, from beginning to end!

Cairo Time (2009) follows the story of a married woman Juliette (Patricia Clarkson) who travels to Cairo to see her Canadian husband who is working there as a diplomat. Her husband Mark is too busy to spend time with her so she ends up spending all her time with her Cairo native guide Tareq (played by Alexander Siddig). Tareq shows her Cairo and she falls in love with the city as well as her guide, surrendering herself up to the Cairo way of life.

Cairo Time won the "Best Canadian Feature Film" at the Toronto International Film Festival 2009.

I asked Daniel about his next project after Cairo Time.

Daniel said: I am trying to get Ruba's next film going and have about five features and a bunch of tv in various stages of development.

me: And what's next for you after Aruba?

Daniel: I am going to Toronto and then Ischia (Island off Naples). Cairo Time is at the festival there, but I am just going to relax and read books. :-)
