Milcho Manchevski in Aruba

Milcho Manchevski in Aruba

Sound like a RHCP album??? :-)

Well, it's not. No, this is the latest film by celebrated Macedonian filmmaker Milcho Manchevski (Before the Rain, 1994; Dust 2001; Shadows, 2007). This week Milcho has attended the 2nd annual Aruba International Film Festival to showcase his latest film, MOTHERS, as well as his Golden Lion award-winning film BEFORE THE RAIN. He will also attend a 'Conversations With' discussing at length his career as an award-winning filmmaker and as teacher of film at the prestigious NYU Film School. This will take place tonight at the Paseo Herencia theater in Aruba conducted by Screen International writer/editor Wendy Mitchell.

The genius director Milcho Manchevski (Before the Rain, 1994; Dust, 2001; Shadows, 2007; Mothers, 2010) walks the red carpet just before 50 Cent arrived on June 14th at AIFF 2011.

Milcho's groundbreaking poignant films have stayed so deeply ingrained in the psyche of his audience that he does not need to put on airs while walking the carpet. Oh no, Milcho is just himself... illustrating the point that the glamour of film should be contained in the film itself and not on all the fanfare of the red carpet.

When asked by press on the way into the screening of his film MOTHERS, he said, 'I wanted to make a film about truth, that explores the boundaries of what we see as truth and fiction. It's all fine and dandy to make pretty fiction narrative film but what are we going to do about the ugly reality?'

Stay tuned for a transcription of the Conversations With coming soon...as well as a review of Milcho's film MOTHERS.

"MOTHERS begins with fiction, indeed with the fabrication of a lie, moves on to an attempt at the fabrication of a myth and ends in the shattering imagery of the real, where no fabrication is possible. Lying below the surface of all the episodes is a small web of fibs and betrayals, minor on the whole, but gaining an awful power in the final act, where a man respected by the community turns out to have deceived them all. There is no easy reading of Mothers, only a need for us to work with the filmmaker to uncover its many meanings."... http://www.manchevski.com/docs/Mothers_Press_Kit.pdf
