Ventana Sur

Ventana Sur is the most important market for audiovisual content in Latin America, and it is a must in the schedule of distributors and buyers from the international industry.

Organized by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) and the Marché du Film – Cannes Film Festival, Ventana Sur brings together all the different players from the audiovisual industry to promote international co-production, financing and distribution of Latin American content.

Ventana Sur Animation! special pitching session - Mentoring program for female creators

HEADER_mentorias.png?1700756225876

Animation! is an exclusive space for animation, a unique opportunity for producers from the region and for professionals from other parts of the world looking to connect with Latin America.

Projects seeking for strategic alliances, networking activities, round tables, workgroups with international specialists and pitching training sessions, are some of the key elements in this section.

Latin American animation continues to arouse great interest in new territories and markets. At Animation!, our goals are to accompany that movement by opening new paths and removing obstacles and foster professionals from the region encouraging strategic alliances, developing their potential with the help of experts from around the world, and promoting local talent in other markets.

On Wednesday, November 29, at 3:00 pm, we invite you to participate in the unmissable Pitch session of the Animation! Mentoring Program for Creators at Auditorium 2, as part of the Ventana Sur audiovisual market.

The Animation! Mentoring Program for Creators has been developed with the support of the Institut Français d'Argentine, the MIFA Market of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation as a strategic partner since 2020. It was developed with the objective of proposing actions aimed at gender equity in the animation industry and one of its axes is the representation of local stories in pursuit of the dissemination of Latin American talent at a global level.

As part of the program, the 5 selected projects received personalized training from specialists on production, script and pitching, where they were given feedback and advice on how to improve their projects. In addition, the teams had the opportunity to participate in talks, meetings and masterclasses with leading professionals in the animation industry.

All the work was reflected in the final presentations of the video pitches in front of the juries, where two projects were selected to travel to the Annecy Festival (France) in 2023. In addition, thanks to the alliance with the Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation, the directors of the 5 projects participated as guests at the Quirino Awards Co-Production Forum in Tenerife last May. Finally, to close the program, the directors will present at Ventana Sur, where the winner of the LatinX Animation Award will be announced and will be invited to participate in the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival LALIF 2024.

During this edition, 2 series and 2 feature film projects from Brazil, Colombia and Mexico will be presented:

"Kale do Museu Assustador" a Brazilian series project by director Lena Franzz, who, thanks to the Mentoring Program, was presented in June at the MIFA 2023 Market (France) together with the winners of the last edition of Animation!

"Kolaval", a Mexican feature film project by director Karla Velázquez, who, thanks to additional support from Annecy, received special recognition to participate in MIFA 2023.

"Martina e Guará" a Brazilian series project by director Paula de Abreu, who was part of the Animation! Mentoring Program for Creators in its second edition.

In addition to these projects, we will have the presentation "Child of the Universe" by the director Danna Galeano. This Colombian feature film has been invited to participate in Ventana Sur through a special action together with LatinX in Animation, the Latino Film Institute's program that seeks to support and promote Latin animation talent.

As a grand finale, during the special presentation of the program at Ventana Sur, the 5 finalist projects will be announced, chosen from among the 229 projects registered in the Animation! 2023 call for proposals, which will be part of the fourth edition of the Animation! Mentoring Program for Creators in 2024.

We are looking forward to meeting you in this session to discover talented Latin American female directors.
