RISING STARS ~ PAST AND PRESENT

Over the course of its rich 52nd year history, WorldFest has awarded top honors to many industry greats before they were famous, including Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, the Coen Brothers, Ridley Scott, Randal Kleiser, Gavin Hood, John Lee Hancock, Michael Cimino, Brian de Palma, Oliver Stone, Ang Lee, Atom Egoyan, David Lynch and literally hundreds more.

Featuring the Panorama Italia, now in its 14th Annual edition, WorldFest proudly presents five brilliant Italian filmmakers to showcase their brand new films with an array of topics to choose from, Documentaries, Comedies, Drama and operatic Il Volo (cameo appearances by Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto & Gianluca Ginoble). Highlights of the new and emerging cinema from Italy include such titles as Bob and Marys, Lucania, Resina, Children of the Great War, Beautiful Things, and Un Amore Cosi Grande. Also not to be missed is WorldFest’s Fifth Annual “Focus on China” which surveys modern Chinese cinema from Independent and major studio films plus a few Retrospectives, too! It is the largest presentation of Chinese Films in the festival world, with more than 200 Chinese Filmmakers attending!

WorldFest also continues its annual Short Film Showcase with a review of 120 award-winning short films from around the world shown as matinees on both weekends with many of the filmmakers in attendance.

Nine feature films at WorldFest this year are World Premieres and will feature nearly all directors on hand to do Question and Answer sessions directly after their screening at the festival. In fact, more than 90% of the film premieres at WorldFest will have their filmmakers on hand to personally present their creative projects… So you have the unique opportunity to ask the filmmakers specifically how they were able to get the dog to do such an amazing acting job on cue… (Not to mention their favorite human actors…)!!
