Gary Lucas Plays "The Golem" (1920) -- Gary Lucas accompanies the film live with his original solo guitar score

Director: Paul Wegener and Carl Boese.
I have performed with this classic horror/fantasy film--the best version of the Golem legend ever made--in our 20 countries round the world since debuting my live score (in collaboration with composer Walter Horn) at the Museum of th Moving Image in Astoria NY in 1989. The film concerns the actual historical Rabbi Jehudah Loew, who Jewish legend has it fashioned a man out of clay and brought him to life through cabbalistic magic to protect the Jewish Community of 16th century Prague from annihilation. A stunningly beautiful, little seen film!

DREI in Copenhagen

user
DREI (2010), the new German film by celebrated director Tom Tykwer screened in Copenhegen at the international film festival 2011. The story of a threesome that is a twosome in three ways. Dining with Tykwer and speaking to him after seeing the film, all I could say was: 'Wow!'. Images of ancient androgynous symbols together with remembrances of breakthrough concepts by Jung crowded my brain and I was inspired, to say the least. I explained to Tom how I loved that the fi...

Poles Apart Again

user
Probably the most successful of the still-sustained 'national' film festivals that flourish, with greater and lesser degrees of success in London and around the British Isles (dare I still call them that without fear of political uncorrectness?) is Kinoteka, which celebrated its 9th edition from 24th March to 13th April, 2011.(Since the German Film Weeks are now but a fond memory, this Polish filmic-extravaganza now surely takes the crown, in the face of all kinds of film 'festivals' that vie...
