"Why should we show your movie?"

user
#biff1 "Why should we show your movie?" Too many times, it seems as though film festivals are looking for an excuse NOT to accept your film. It doesn't fit the theme. It's too "weird." There's no name connected with it.  At the Boulder International Film Festival, we have one criterion for selection -- one. Quality. We are committed to providing a showcase of the best in film for our guests, and a great experience for our filmmakers. We welcome first-timers and ...

CHAMELEON

Director: Krisztina GODA.

Gábor is an office cleaner. Wearing overalls and a baseball hat, he seems insignificant. Working on the night shift, Gábor rarely has any contact with his employers, yet he learns everything about them by thoroughly analyzing their garbage. Since he is almost invisible, nobody suspects that Gábor is, in fact, a con man who carefully chooses his victims by the trash they leave behind. His targets are mostly disillusioned, lonely women. In a few months he destroys all their romantic illusions by taking all their savings. Having an unusually high IQ and an ability to assume various personalities, Gábor is an expert in manipulation. When he gets a job at a psychologist's office, Gábor meets Hanna, an injured dancer who happens to be the daughter of a millionaire. Insecure and vulnerable, Hanna seems to be the perfect victim. Gábor pretends to be a doctor who can cure her body and her soul, an irresistible offer for a desperate woman. Everything goes according to plan until Gábor falls in love with Hanna and has to make a hard decision between her and the money.

Feathered Fan and Silken Ribbon

Director: Wieland Schulz-Keil, Dan Tang.
The film consist of four portraits of Peking opera performers, two adults and two children. It presents a subtle picture of the present cultural-political climate in China. Peking Opera often seems puzzling and out of place, even in China. Its style is the opposite of naturalism: It is perfectly possible that young girls play elderly generals, or that a young male actor performs the heroine's sword dance from "Farewell my Concubine." The radical artificiality of Peking Opera has often met resistance. During the Cultural Revolution of the 60s and 70s, it was considered decadent and was outlawed. Today it seems hopelessly old-fashioned compared to the new currents of popular culture. -- While visiting a Peking Opera school the filmmakers met a number of teachers and pupils who are working hard and with admirable devotion to keep their highly refined music and dance theatre alive. The theatre people not only taught them about their century old Chinese art form, but also about their lives in the midst of a mostly imported new culture.

Jameson CineFest - Miskolc International Film Festival

The flourishing Jameson CineFest will celebrate its 8th edition in September 2011, housing in a new cultural complex House of Arts. Each year, after a careful pre-selection, the top 15-20 features and 40-50 shorts, documentaries and animation films have the opportunity to compete in the official program. Most of the films came from Central Europe, from the US and Germany, but we received films from Indonesia to South America. Jameson CineFest provides an unique look into young international cinema's landscape, screening the best flicks from all over the world.

Many attractive supplementary programs, exhibitions, concerts, film history workshops, roundtable discussions will accompany the nightly screenings. Our CineClassics series started in 2010: explore with us Hungary's exceptionally rich film heritage: Oscar winner British screenwriter Emeric Pressburger was born in Miskolc, legendary founder of Paramount PicturesAdolph Zukor in the nearby village Ricse, 20th Century-Fox founder William Fox in Tolcsva, in the heart of the renowned Tokaj wine region, just to name a few.  The 2009 conference dedicated to Emeric Pressburger (with the participation of his Oscar winner grandson Kevin Macdonald), and the 2010 workshop about Zoltan Korda was a true gem.

Jameson CineFest is one of the most attractive festivals of Central Europe, where our guests can get know the fresh cavalcade of world cinema, the hidden treasures of film history, fine food and drinks, concerts and parties - with true Hungarian hospitality.

See you in Miskolc in September 2011!

Dances With Films

Dances With Films, now in its 14th year, champions the unflinching spirit at the very core of the independent film scene. While the vast majority of film fests rely heavily on celebrity, we have relied on the innovation, talent, creativity and sweat equity that revolutionized the entertainment industry. And that reliance continues to prove successful with alumni moving on to write and direct celebrity-studded vehicles, star in blockbuster movies and network series, produce multi-million dollar films and create hit TV shows. Oh....and we even have a few OSCAR® nominees... In a world of formulaic, homogenized film festivals Dances With Films continues to break the rules
