MOLODIST INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Promotion of Young Cinema
«Molodist» is a specialized festival aimed to support the cinema of young directors. That’s why we are looking thoroughly for works of talented youth at film festivals all over the world. That’s why we process hundreds of applications and spend our time for hundreds hours of videos. We search, we find, we help young talents to occupy a fitting place in contemporary cinema process.
Program
Festival’s competition program consists of sections of student films, first short films (fiction film, animation, documentary) and first full-feature films. Non-competition section of the Festival traditionally presents a range of programs aimed at acquainting the audience with best works of cinematographic art from all over the world as well as works of world’s largest cinema-schools.
World standards
In 1993 FIAPF officially registered «Molodist» as a specialized International Festival, which activity completely corresponds with international standards. So, the Festival has been working according to FIAPF «Regulations for International Film Festivals» for 18 years.
Process
According to FIAPF information and to such sources as Screen, Variety and Moving Pictures – «Molodist» is one of most important film-events in Eastern Europe. We give a dynamic of development of the most important trends of a young cinema here and all over the world. In 2010 almost 350 films have been presented from more than 40 countries.
Kyiv Talent Workshop
In 2011 Molodist Talent Workshop project - a range of workshops and master-classes from really important figures of the world cinema process – will be realized for the 9th time already. First two years we carried out this event in cooperation with famous Berlinale Talent Campus.
Competition and eligibility of films
Festival competition section consists of three categories:
student films (less than 45’),
first professional short (fiction, animation, documentary) films (less than 45'),*
first professional full-length fiction films (60' or more).
* selection committee recognizes the first short fiction film of director as a debut film if his previous short films were documentary or animation.
All films produced after the January 1, 2010 at professional studios or film schools, which have 35 mm print are eligible for official competition section.
Films that have participated and have been awarded prizes in other festivals may be submitted for competition.
Alternative competition sections:
Thematic program dedicated to existential range of problems of the LGBT-community «Sunny Bunny»:
Full-length and short films (fiction, animation, documentary) thematically relevant and produced after January 1, 2010 (any media) are eligible for «Sunny Bunny» alternative competition section. Films that have participated and have been awarded prizes in other festivals may be submitted for competition.
«Ukrainian panorama 2010-2011»:
Full-length and short films (fiction, animation, documentary) produced in Ukraine (or in co-production with Ukraine) after January 1, 2010 (any media) are eligible for «Ukrainian panorama» alternative competition section. Films that have participated and have been awarded prizes in other festivals may be submitted for competition.
Awards
International Jury awards
• Grand Prix for the best competition film (10 000 USD and the statuette «The Scythian Deer»)
• Prize for the best film in each category (student films / first professional short films / first professional full-length fiction films) - a monetary award or material prize of 2 500 USD
• Prize for best performances by a young actor (1 500 EUR)
Other awards
• Audience prize
• FIPRESCI jury prize (in case of its presence on festival)
• «Don Quihote» prize (in case of presence FICC jury)
• Ecumenical jury prize (in case of its presence on festival)
• «Sunny Bunny» award for the films of «Sunny Bunny» alternative competition section,
