Matt Dillon Gets Conched in Donostia

user
Here on the next to the next-to-last day of the festival, American actor Matt Dillon, is to be awarded a lifetime career CONCHA award (at the relatively tender age of 42) -- in this writer's opinion a very good choice. The other performer award this week went to Swede Max Von Sydow, so Matt can be said to be stepping in the best of company, and no questions about that. Over the years I have watched Dillon's career develop from early "young punk" roles in films like "Rumble Fish" (Coppola,1983) ...

Berlin Wrap: the films we hadda miss...

user
It's always a bit of a let-down when a big one like this wraps and you look through the catalogue noting oodles of films you were dying to see but just didn't have time to get to. Ouch! Unfortunately, the press conference time remained unchanged, so that those condemned to the later viewing (like myself), found the conference already well unde...

Berlin press conference with Wajda and hot Heath Ledger

user
One of the great assets for a journalist at the Berlin film festival is the very well organized press conference structure and the constant parade of leading figures, directors, stars and others, from film industries around the world. The day here starts out with two matinee press screenings of films in competition in the same giant hall, the Berlinale Palast, where the gala red-carpet screenings are held in the evening. These press screenings are immediately followed by a press conference in th...
