Winners 2010 .winnerimage { float:left; margin: 0 10px 10px 0; } Best Film Winter's Bone by Debra Granik By unanimous decision, the jury surrendered to a world so fully described by the director and a protagonist's dilemma in a community seldom represented in America. Through her heroine, the director paints an original portrait of a matriarchy who, by turns, warns, punishes, and ultimately offers an unlikely deliverance. The story and performances worked together to realize an uncompr...

Director David Michod rules in Animal Kingdom

user
I saw this Sundance 2010 Grand jury prize winner at the www.lafest.com and it rocked. The director David Michod and I met there and last week we had an in depth conversation to be posted in the next issue of www.independentfilmquarterly.net.The words that stick out in my mind are complexities and preparation. Everybody wants to make their movie so they get a camera and start shooting their script. Very different with this awesome feature film debut of this extremely talented writer /director. So...

Sundance Film Festival jury and audience award winners

user
Thirty-four films were awarded prizes in 29 categories, honoring both veteran and first-time filmmakers from the U.S. to Spain, Cambodia, and beyond. First-year Festival Director John Cooper had branded the 2010 Festival a reboot, calling for a return to the Festival's rebellious roots, and the diversity of tonight's winners would seem to move toward satisfying that mission and complicate received notions of the homogenous "Sundance film." As he did throughout the week, Cooper broug...
