Hello!
You´re now welcome to submit your film to the upcoming 14th Norrkoping Film Festival
Flimmer. Important dates and entry form is available on our website: www.flimmer.nu
Deadline: 25th of July!
___
Flimmer is southeast Sweden's biggest independent film organisation and is based in Norrköping, a former forerunner of the industrial revolution in Sweden. In a city steeped in tradition and history, Flimmer has successfully established itself in two distinct areas.
Norrkoping Film festival Flimmer is a favourite in the cinema-goers' calendar in southeast Sweden. The 14th annual festival will take place between 5th and 14th of October this year. Following the huge success of last year's festival, Flimmer will, this year, offer a multitude of films to please anybody who is genuinely interested in cinema. All the films are shown in Norrköping and are screened at times and in venues to maximise your enjoyment. Last year's festival opened with the Swedish film “Stockholm Östra”, the Swedish premieres of “Even the Rain” and Liz Garbus’ “Bobby Fischer Against the World”. The festival also saw the Swedish premieres of “Talihina Sky: the Story of Kings of Leon” and James Gunn’s “Super” as well as shocking yet informative documentaries; animation; short films; Midnight Screenings; and face-to-face interviews with actors, actresses and directors. This year the attempt is not only to maintain the quality and variety of last year’s festival but also to make this year even more memorable. Last year we therefore made the move to Cnema ( www.cnema.se ), the new venue for cinema goers in Norrköping and the East Sweden region, where three top modern auditoriums will host this year’s festival screenings.
Our open air cinema is the biggest open-air cinema event in Sweden. The Flimmer Utomhusbio visits around 30 places in Sweden between June and September, and is welcoming 40 000 people to the inflatable giant screen. The open air cinema runs between May and September and this year’s programmes include Oscar winners and well-known Swedish titles. The programme is available here in May and each screening is free, although there will be a raffle every evening and donations are gratefully received.
Please see our website for further information! www.flimmer.nu
This year's Festival will screen a diverse slate of nearly 200 feature films, shorts, and music videos, representing more than 30 countries, along with signature programs such as the Filmmaker Retreat, Poolside Chats, Coffee Talks, Music Events and more. Check back May 15 for the complete Festival schedule!

For its 13th installment, the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival opens with Kings of Pastry, about a French chef competition. The gastronomic theme pairs well with Full Frame's closing barbecue, a tradition that incarnates the Southern hospitality associated with this Durham, N.C., event, taking place April 8 to 11.
Yet not so long ago, a film celebrating quiche-eaters might not have enjoyed such a visible U.S. premiere. That this Gallic bakeoff by husband-and-wife filmmakers D.A. P...

Marco Bechis’ Birdwatchers could have gone horribly awry. Surficially an extinction survival story, pitting a dwindling indigenous people against the encroachment of the outside world that encircles and threatens to strangle, it could have been a treacly morality tale espousing the nobility of the native against the evils of modernity and our collective lost way. But it is not.
What it is, is a take on competing interests making a place for themselves that has echoes of Israel and ...

The Nantucket Film Festival is accepting film and screenplay submissions for its 16th edition, to be held June 22-26, 2011. Unique in its dedication to supporting and promoting the art of screenwriting, the Nantucket Film Festival has been a standout on the festival circuit, screening imaginative films with an eye for great storytelling. The films shown at NFF are comprised of independent, studio-produced, foreign, documentary, animation, and short works in every genre.
All film submissions are eligible for an array of awards, including Showtime’s Tony Cox Award for Screenwriting, Best Storytelling in a Documentary, Best Writer/Director, Audience Award and the Adrienne Shelly Excellence in Filmmaking Award that honors the outstanding achievement by a female filmmaker with a $5,000 cash prize.
Showtime’s Tony Cox Screenplay Competition provides—in addition to a $5,000 cash prize and an all-expense paid trip to the Festival in June—a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate as one of four writers in the Screenwriters Colony annual, month-long retreat to Nantucket in the fall. The Colony offers screenwriters a place to work where they are encouraged to find their voice and push the boundaries of their craft under the guidance of established film professionals. Recent Screenwriter’s Colony mentors have included: Campbell Scott, Oren Moverman, Bingham Ray, L.M. Kit Carson, Coleman Hough, and Lawrence Inglee. Competition finalists are invited to a Mentor Brunch where they can discuss their projects with the Screenwriters Tributee. Barry Levinson inaugurated the program in 2009. The Competition has also served as a launching platform for promising screenwriters. Writer/director Debra Granik won the Competition in 2002 for her script Down to the Bone. Her new film, Winter’s Bone, leads the 2010 award season with an impressive number of nominations.
The Festival offers the perfect environment for filmmakers and screenwriters to meet with actors, producers, and development executives, resulting in successful collaborations. Rosie Perez met director/producer Liz Garbus of Moxie Firecracker Films and produced the Puerto Rican documentary, Yo Soy Boricua, Pa’que tu lo Sepas! Sophie Barthes met actor Paul Giamatti while attending the Festival as the 2006 Competition winner for her script Cold Souls; Giamatti went on to star in the film. As one of the 2009 Competition Jurors, Lili Taylor was so impressed by Jenny Deller’s script Future Weather that she signed on to star in the upcoming film.

Wednesday, June 13-------We've all seen it in the movies.....a man or woman who has been in a deep coma suddenly wakes up and becomes a kind of savant about the thin line between life and death. It is fascinating stuff, and never more compelling when it happens in real life, and not just to Robert De Niro in the film AWAKENINGS. Four patients who made the incredible transition from comatose to consciousness are profiled in the film COMA, directed by award-winning documentarian Liz Garbus....
Monday, June 11-------In a mere five years, SILVERDOCS has emerged as one of the most important and provocative showcases of non-fiction media in the world. With support from both the American Film Institute and Discovery Communications, the event, barely a toddler in festival terms, has become an industry prime mover. Its parallel International Documentary Conference, a series of information panels and master classes, attracts nearly 1000 visiting filmmakers, commissioning editors and programme...
SPOTLIGHT ON WOMEN DIRECTORSThe Directors Guild of America reports that less than 10% of its membership are women. In the history of the Academy Awards, only three women have ever been nominated for Best Director (Lina Wertmuller, Jane Campion and Sofia Coppola). While women head major studios and are prolific producers, there still is a “glass ceiling” regarding women directors. But at the Miami International Film Festival....it's a woman's world, and male journalists like myself just have ...
