The Global Film Village: The WGA Just Add Pictures by Marla Lewin

user
During the WGA strike last year there was an expansion of discussion among members and a desire to enhance the earning potential of the membership through greater ongoing communication. This is one of the first of the series of panel discussions which will explore various genres with writers and industry executives at the top of their game. The Saturday July 11, 2009 panel was about the huge comic book to film genre. The topic was turning screenplays into comic books to enhance their salabilit...

In search of Gog

#
Director: Colleen Pancake.
The film follows a young man named Rob Wilson along his comical and bizarre search for the ‘big questions’ about life, God, and the world. His first answers come from his therapist (author of “I’m ok, what’s wrong with you?”), from his parents in his childhood (who were too distracted by TV and work to care), and from a montage of religious leaders (who all chalk it up to being ‘a mystery’). As a child, he thought he heard ‘Gog’ instead of ‘God’ in Sunday school; he remarks that when he once asked, ‘Gog, are you there?’ he didn’t get an answer probably because he got the name wrong. His journey takes him through possibilities he never considered, and introduces him to new people and ideas. A irreverent comedy about religions where no Dogma is safe!

Movie Review: V FOR VENDETTA

user
It's easy to see how V, as a letter, as a symbol, can represent and inspire an uprising of citizen revolt. Victory. Vindication. Valour. These are the codes that the depressed people of a future totalitarian society aspire to and they also define the title character who stirs them to action. The graphical quality of the letter itself can resemble two arms, defiantly reaching for the heavens. But a revolution can live or die by the double-edged sword it employs; violence can pollute a cause and ...
