A still from 'Charlie Butterfly'   INTERVIEW WITH DARIUSZ STEINESS on his film CHARLIE BUTTERFLY (2002) and his director cut release at Copenhagen Film Festival, CPHPIX 2011.   I interviewed Dariusz in Copenhagen over a fantastic French dinner the night before his big premier, the re-release of his film CHARLIE BUTTERFLY (Denmark, 2002) in the form of a never before seen Director’s Cut. The Bang Bang Club, our bet for Tribeca

user
The Bang Bang Club is the true story about four, free spirited combat photographers with a passion for danger and search for the truth during the uprisings in apartheid South Africa from Nelson Mandela’s release from serving a life sentence in prison on February 11, 1990, to the first democratic election in 1994, in which he became President until 1999. Follow these fearless young men as they demonstrate bravery, camaraderie, and moral turpitude, in the heart of the apartheid riots and “tr...

Angelo Milli

Venezuelan born composer Angelo Milli came to the U.S. to attend the famed Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he received his degree in film scoring. There, he studied under some of the world’s most renowned musicians, and immersed himself in early 20th Century contemporary music. While he reveres the familiar conventions of film scoring, he is also adept at using digital effects to manipulate sound. His v

Commentary - Win Win & Tom McCarthy Q & A

user
TO READ POST WITH ACCOMPANYING PHOTOS VISIT TINSEL & TINE  Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent, The Visitor) has once again written and directed a picture that’s been touted at the festivals; however, his newest film has enough mainstream appeal to be backed by Fox Searchlight Pictures. Win Win is the story of an attorney, wrestling coach and most importantly, family man, Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti) living in a middle class Jersey suburb trying to keep things going in these diffic...

Cunning Linguistics by Kimberly Deisler

user
If you’re reading this, chances are you know what to expect; smart-ass remarks, a turn of a phrase and a decent amount of cleverly placed sarcasm and profanity, which is why I so enjoy the Independent Spirit Awards.  Spirited aptly describes the entire day from weather to wardrobe, from nominees to winners, from one open bar to the next with Jameson shots and Stella Artois chasers, some sponsor favorites among many a guest.  But the flowing alcohol certainly wasn’t needed to loo...

Sleepless

user
I have been awake for the past 40 minutes and am still not ‘awake’ if you see what I mean. I know I managed to sleep well last night but I feel like… well a zombie! Oh, but no mention of zombies today as yesterdsay was horror day  I actually had some cracking meetings yesterday! You can’t beat a productive meeting Anyway, I hear Black Swan is supposed to be great, can’t say I’m surprised as the trailer looks fab, and Requiem for a Dream is a superb film of the directors....

Robin Hood premiere attracts star-studded red carpet

user
Not even volcanic ash could keep some of the world's most prominent international film stars from arriving in Cannes for the opening ceremonies of the 63rd annual Film Festival. The premiere of Robin Hood Wednesday night was preceded by a star-studded red carpet event attracting fans and photographers from all over the world. Paparazzi camped out overnight on Tuesday to stake out the perfect shot of the evening's festivities.          Locals and tourists ali...

Adrian Grenier Takes On The Paparazzi

user
"I am not a celebrity, but I play one on television", actor Adrien Grenier wagged from the stage at the School of Visual Arts Theater last night after the presentation of his documentary film TEENAGE PAPARAZZO at the Gen Art Film Festival in New York. Grenier, best known for his role as young movie star Vincent Chase in the Hollywood buddy comedy ENTOURAGE, has had his own run with the paparazzi, the aggressive photo hounds who are desperate to catch an unposed photo of cel...

Dani Strömbäck wins Nordic Film Music Prize in Göteborg

user
Finnish composer/pianist/studio musician Dani Strömbäck was awarded the Nordic Film Music Prize at the Dragon Awards Gala in Göteborg on Saturday. He had composed the score to Claus Härö’s film Letters to Father Jacob. He describes his creative process in this particular case:   “First, I captured the feeling after reading the script. The first impression. I improvised and tried various melodies.”   After meeting with the director, he was given a lot of freedom to work. ...

Veteran British Star of Stage and Screen Celebrates Over 50 Years in Showbiz.

user
‘All round entertainer’ is a term that’s perhaps overused these days. Yet British screen veteran Stan Stennett MBE can rightly justify the claim to this title. Patric Morgan caught up with the man who is still performing after 50 years in showbiz.  Stan Stennett, star of stage and screen, pulls open one of the filing cabinets in his office.   “Where do you want to start?”   Well where do you start? The scrapbooks start at ‘early 1950s’ and span over half a cen...

Mariam's Amazing Race to Cannes: Day 11 part 2

user
I have never been on a airline like Ryan Air. Getting on the plane was pretty much standard, but once I sat down, I knew it was going to be different. After all the carry-on luggage was placed in the overhead bins and the attendants closed the doors, I could see advertisements down the length of the plane, like on a public bus. Half way through the flight, there was an announcement and the attendants walked through the plane offering special Ryan Air scratch-off lotto tickets for $1 Euro each....

Red Carpet Transformation!

user
Besides the swarm of celebrities, directors, producers, paparazzi and onlookers, no award show or film festival would be complete without the Red Carpet. This legendary stretch of fabric which graciously leads guests from their flashy cars to the doors of the theatre, has become a character itself during these fine events. In a way, it has become somewhat of a celebrity, being present in the most glamorous of settings. Admiring it during the day it is easy to say that even bare...
