Barrage, Review by Siraj Syed: Exquisite ennui

Barrage, Review by Siraj Syed: Exquisite ennui Some exquisite nature photography cannot save this Luxembourg-Belgium-France co-production from recurring ennui. A wafer thin story about three generations of women, Barrage sticks to its theme, though it moves at snail’s pace. Previewed at a Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) screening for members of its film club, the film is in French language and has English sub-titles. Barrage in French means dam/block/barricade, not quite the Engli...

The 2017 Women's Voices Now (WVN) Online Film Festival is an opportunity for films and filmmakers interested in exposure and advocacy for women’s rights, and teaming up with WVN to have your films seen around the world. Films must be about women’s social, economic, and political issues. Films by women and men are accepted into the festival. This is the fourth WVN Online Film Festival.

Women’s Voices Now seeks to amplify the voices of all women. We believe in the power of free expression to realize the aspirations of women's rights. At WVN, we look for compelling films in the documentary, narrative, and experimental genres that push boundaries and subvert expectations. We are looking for films that are relevant to our global community and which tell unique stories and amplify voices of women from around the world. We judge all film submissions based on relevance of subject matter to our film festival, strength of a film’s storytelling (use of structure and image to communicate a compelling story), and the technical aspects of filmmaking.

All films in any language other than English are encouraged to submit; however, all films must include English language subtitles. There is a $20 submission fee for each film submission. Submissions are incomplete until we receive a high resolution, screening-ready, digital download.

By submitting your film to our festival, you agree to our Rules & Regulations and Licensing Agreement.

AXW has promoted and screened experimental shorts since 2010 in Manhattan NY. Many of these films feature underrepresented themes and issues distinct to women and girls, are usually made by women and, sometimes, men.

Six screenings per year are presented thru NEW FILMMAKERS NY at ANTHOLOGY FILM ARCHIVES. All program notes remain on our web-site.

We recommend submitting shorter works of around 10 minutes and under, as these are easier to include. Narrative dramas, and conventional documentaries are unlikely to be included, unless they are exceptionally original/experimental in form and/or content.

_____________

AXW/online is a streaming site of short shows, that pays the filmmakers for their work, and serves to archive women's films that seerve as a record of their thoughts, expressions, and film-craft.

AXWFF - Another eXperiment by Women Film Festival

Another eXperiment by Women Film Festival (AXW for short) gives women's work a real time & space in New York City.

AXW promotes and screens moving images in any media, made by women, that encourage critical thinking and dialogue.

Experimental Short Films are provocative, exciting, spontaneous, and sometimes forbidden, but unfortunately, they’re somewhat unknown. So we’ve opened the doors of the AXW/online web site where the Festivals can be seen 24/7/365: http://AXWonline.com

London Feminist Film Festival

The festival aims to counterbalance the mainstream film industry’s narrow representation of women and its neglect of feminist issues by showing a season of feminist feature films, documentaries, and shorts made by women directors from around the world.

The London Feminist Film Festival will be a celebration of feminist film making and will showcase up and coming women directors as well as screening rarely-seen feminist classics. The films will be feminist in their representation of women and /or their handling of feminist issues.
