Keeping it Real

These days people go and watch movies that have high quality visual effects and enjoy seeing large explosions, incredible creatures that look as of they could really exist, mind blowing action sequences, 3D images, and a variety of different effects that technology is allowing filmmakers and studios -who have the budget- to do. However, with all the advances there is always the same complaint from movie goers and critics saying that what they are seeing on screen is not realistic. They a...

Always a Bridesmaid? Hell NO! by Kimberly Deisler

 If you’re a woman and you hear adjectives like short and funny, immediately you think two things, that Kimmie Dee is hilarious and so is a man with a sock in his pants. You’d be right to laugh at both.  A man show at a job site sans tool, almost nothing funnier or sadder.  But add to that hit list of short and funny, sexy and monetarily endowed and you’ve just described the LA Comedy Shorts Film Festival’s closing night festivities.  Downtown LA’s Elevate Lounge hosted and LA...

HumanDOC International Documentary Film Festival GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT IN CINEMA

2nd HumanDOC International Documentary Film Festival: GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT IN CINEMA

 We are pleased to invite all filmmakers and TV producers who would like to take part in the HumanDOC International Documentary Film Festival:Global Development in Cinema. The festival will be held in Warsaw, Poland from November 12th -17th 2011 at Kinoteka in Palace of Culture & Science in Warsaw.

Through the screenings of selected productions we would like to bring our festival audience closer to current problems of people living in developing nations, and to provide them with deeper insights into the politics
of global development and various issues related to international aid for economically depressed countries.

We are looking for original, wise and objective productions (documentaries, reportages and social advertising) that will increase the awareness of the viewers on problems of injustice and depravation in developing nations. What we seek are productions that will raise important questions about the state of our contemporary world, and urge people to reflect on the meaning of help for those in need.

We are looking for:
* Documentary films,
* TV Reportages,
* Social advertising/campaigns related to developmental issues.

We are especially interested in themes such as:
1. Interdependence of the Global North and Global South.
2. The ones set out in the UN Millennium Development Goals.
3. Everyday problems of people living in developing countries.
4. Examples of help brought by donors, international organizations, governmental agencies and NGOs - both positive and those who have not been successful.
5. Social advertising/campaigns about UN Millennium Development Goals or development issues.

The Festival will present the best documentaries and commercials on subjects related to developing nations from around the world. We would like to show productions that increase the awareness about the countries' dependency on international aid. We hope that people who will participate in our festival will learn about how global issues affect the everyday lives of people and societies around the world, and how each and every one of us can get involved and make a positive change for people in poorer nations.

Note To Self:by Kimberly Deisler  The one thing I really love about the LA ComedyShorts Film Festival, well, there are many things, but in particular are thepanels.  While I may have mentionedthis before it bears repeating because the panelists are the most honest,irreverent and hilarious.  Youlearn a lot, you get it straight and you know exactly where you stand … in along line of other people trying to get jobs in the industry.   The hunger of interest in the audience is palatableunlike...

In a month’s time, the east coast has been buried with enough snow to wear down even the “but-I-love-the-change-of-seasons” people.  We’re barely a month in and already the winter has worn out it’s welcome, except in those other areas where winter seemingly has no bearing on mood or outcome. I’m talking about Park City, Utah, Santa Barbara and Hollywood, CA, where films and people are hotter than hot this time of year.  I’m talking about the recent distribution of the Golden Gl...
