International Scientific Film Festival in Szolnok

The International Scientific Film Festival in Szolnok (8-11 October 2015) provides forum for such distinct films which can somehow, in some way be connected to science: are about some scientific result or work, or in their action, language and presentation give place to science.

This will have been the 14th year that the International Scientific Film Festival with a wide spectrum of topics has started its way. Since 2001, every other year a film forum emerged on which the creators of film and science had the opportunity to display their work that had a scientific theme. During the last decade scientific educational films, documentaries and portraits about science, short and long features, experimentals with a scientific topic, documentaries dealing with protection of nature and environment, and films dealing with the relationship of science and fake science took place.

Our aim is to spread the wide spectrum of films to the audience, to university and college students in and outside the country who major in film studies, and to pass more and more of these films to one of the tv channels. For this reason, at the 2015 film festival we are organizing the meeting of Central European Universities called Trans Europe Express and a conference belonging to this. On this occasion we are especially dealing with the current situation of film discipline. We are welcoming again this year students and teachers of film universities, filmmakers and those who are interested in science and in films.

We expect films to the Festival in the following subjects:

→ Scientific educational films, which deal with science related questions in a new creative way.

→ Documentaries and portraits about science, scientific discoveries.

→ Short and long features, which give science or scientific activities an important part in the action of the film.

→ Experimental films, which use the results of science and technique, in order to renew the moving picture expression.

→ Films dealing with the relationship of science and fake science.

→ Mock documentaries, which introduce nonexistent scientific innovations as if they were existing.

→ Documentaries dealing with the protection of nature and environment.

You can register online to the International Scientific Film Festival by filling in an online registration form until 20 May 2015. There is no entry fee. We are going to publicize the list of films in competition in mid august. We also welcome ideas of programs that suit the theme of the festival, enrich its program and address a wider public.

Let's meet at the International Scientific Film Festival in Szolnok in October, 2015!

Spirit Quest Film Festival

The Spirit Quest Film Festival has opened their call for entries for their 2012 season and is currently seeking inspirational, thought provoking and intriguing films and screenplays from around the world.

Created and maintained by film festival veterans with deep ties within the industry, Spirit Quest hopes to provide submitting filmmakers and screenwriters with the exposure and attention they deserve for all of their hard work.

We're looking for anything that will move us, make us laugh, cry and learn something about ourselves and the world we inhabit in the process.

We hope to inspire, enlighten and challenge our audiences by showcasing films and awarding screenplays that explore the best (and sometimes the worst) of the human experience.

Films and stories of faith, courage and success, that celebrate and explore our diversity, our planet and our politics. From introspective meditations on relationships, to mind boggling journeys to far away places and anything in between – share your vision with us.

If you have a film or screenplay that fits any of these descriptions, we want to see it!

All genres accepted - dramas, documentaries, comedies, animation, music videos and any film dealing with the above themes.  There is even a special category for young filmmakers under the age of 18 this season.

Awards will be presented to the Best Films and Screenplays.

International Freethought Film Festival

The International Freethought Film Festival is hosted by the Freethought Film Festival Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, educational organization promoting reason, critical thinking and freedom of inquiry through the medium of film. The biggest project to carry out that mission is the production of the International Freethought Film Festival; an annual event that features independent films submitted by filmmakers. The film festival is a celebration of having the basic human right to express freethought concepts, and to educate the public on the importance of using reason, critical thinking and science (void of superstitions) to explain the natural world and improve upon the human condition. The Call for Submissions for the first season is open, and entries can be narrative, documentary and animations for features and short films alike.

Bio:Fiction Science, Art and Filmfestival, Vienna

The 1st Bio:Fiction Science, Art & Filmfestival aims at attracting public awareness to synthetic biology and its ramifications for our daily life in the future.

Synthetic biology is the design and construction of new biological systems not found in nature. Synthetic biology aims at creating new forms of life for practical purposes. By applying engineering principles to biology scientists will be able to design life forms much different from breeding or traditional genetic engineering.

We want to encourage filmmakers to share their cinematic visions of a present or future society shaped by synthetic biology. What is your view on a world living with synthetic life forms? Your approach is up to you - the filmmaker, scientists or artist - the entries can be on science, fiction, or science fiction. We welcome regular short film, animation or documentary film. The main criteria is that synthetic biology has to be reflected somehow in the work, but how you do it is up to you.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

Bio:Fiction Award – Short Fiction

Bio:Fiction Award – Documentary Film

Bio:Fiction Award - Animation

Online-Audience Award

Special Award of the Jury

(the prize money in each category will be announced soon)

On http://www.bio-fiction.com you will find more useful and inspiring information on synthetic biology, the entry form and the regulations of the filmfestival.

The nominated films will be presented in public at the festival event in Vienna, Austria, in May 2011. Finally, a Bio:Fiction Award ceremony will build the highlight of the festival.

The deadline for film entries is  the 15th of July 2010

There is no entry fee for submitting films.
