The Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF) returns for a sixth
year to digital platform screens across the Toronto subway system. Always the strong and
silent type, TUFF takes place September 7 - 17, 2012, concurrent with the
Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Named one of MovieMaker Magazine's "20 Coolest Film
Festivals" (2010), TUFF is a 10-day long celebration of the art of the
urban silent screen. TUFF films screen on the Pattison Onestop network of

Once upon a time. Old magazines gently dance in the wind. A super-8 camera crawls over a wooden table while an old carpet flows in and out. Suddenly, a mouse. Then, a whole civilization running towards its inevitable destiny. Plastic waste has reached the point where not even the most distant beaches are safe.
Audience
festival showing 160 long/short films to 23.000 spectators.
Offers three competitions:
- THE HEINRICH award for European debut & second features (10.000 Euro)
- THE LEO for the best combination of sound/music and image in a short film (2.000 Euro)
- the French-German youth award KINEMA for the best debut film
Main award of the festival is THE EUROPA for outstanding performances of a European actress or actor and her or his contribution to European film culture (10.000 Euro). Hanna Schygulla, Bruno Ganz and John Hurt received the EUROPA in recent years.

Director: Nikolaus von Uthmann.
The most dramatic race since BEN HUR! Sweet Granny is walking to her favorite spot at a lake when she gets overtaken by Mrs Messala. The old ladies maneuver their wheeled walking-aides in a breathtaking, funny but violent snail-pace race.
Black humour + whacky comedy underlined by subtle social commentary, as if Monty Pythons had teamed up with Mike Leigh.
The film has already been shown at festivals all over the world, and has won the Gold Remi Award of the WorldFest Houston (category: Best Original Comedy Short), and the Audience Award of the Kino Knock Out Festival in Altkirch, France.
THE MYSTERY OF RUDOLF VALENTINO
Legendary, hunky male silent screen star Rudolf VALENTINO is resurfacing this year at the 25th edition of the Giornate del Cinema Muto, in Sacile, Northern Italy, with a focus on 2 recently-found and digitally restored films starring the idol and a modern imaginary conversation short in which Edouardo Ballerini, playing the star, agonizes about the vicious rumo
26th Pordenone SILENT FILM FESTIVAL, Teatro Verdi, 6-13 October 2007
JEAN DARLING, child prodigy of the silent film era, now a sprightly 84, is present as Guest of Honour at this year's Giornate del Cinema Muto in Pordenone to introduce the restored copy of OUR GANG films she starred in during the '20s. As a child star, her colleagues included Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Jean Harlow, Hal Raoch, Fatty Arbuckle, Marion Davies, Greta Garbo and Clark Gable. She is one of the few remaining actors of the silent film period left to witness the scene as she did in her autobiography A PEEK IN THE PAST, published in 1995.
