Even seven years after it was shot, Chehere: A Modern Day Classic, was unlikely to see even the light of modern day. That it has managed to reach the screen is a miracle, as is the survival of its lead actress, Manisha Koirala, who was battling cancer when the film was almost complete. TUFF is looking for the best one-minute silent films from across Canada and around the world. Over $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the winning films. Artist fees of $100 will be paid to every film that’s selected by our jury to screen on the TTC and on the TUFF website.

The Toronto Urban Film Festival is a 10-day (September 10-19, 2010) public film festival that reaches over 1.3 million subway commuters daily. TUFF is looking for the best one-minute silent films from across Canada and around the world. Over $10,000 in cash and prizes awarded. Films are selected by a guest jury, with the top films chosen by a
Guest Judge; this year it's filmmaker Deepha Metha (Water). Artist fees of $100 paid to every film that’s selected by our jury to screen on the TTC and on the TUFF Website.
Founded in 1982 and dedicated solely to silent cinema, the festival has developed from an intimate local event into a major international cultural manifestation, attracting film scholars, archivists, collectors and enthusiasts from across the world.
