Africa in Motion is already in its sixth year! The profile of the festival has grown steadily since the inaugural season in 2006 and this year, 2011, Africa in Motion focuses its attention on films and events that open doors to children and youth in Africa.
Our programme of films and events deals with many aspects relating to youth, such as education, entertainment, stories and myths, the future, and social issues affecting children and young people in Africa.
This year we made a special effort to invite schools and children to the cinema and we are screening a number of films especially for primary and secondary schools in and around Edinburgh, in collaboration with National Schools Film Week.
Alongside the film screenings, the festival has endeavoured to create fun and challenging workshops and events for Scottish children to really engage with the lives and experiences of their African counterparts and get to learn the stories best known to them.
The rest of the festival will be dedicated to our well-known quality films: epic features, contemporary gems, incisive documentaries, acclaimed shorts and animation films, with a continuing focus on children and youth in Africa.

“My family fell apart long ago…” Kumi, 18, hit her father and no longer goes to school. She spends her days on a riverbank, which is also the favorite place of 28-year-old hostess Ryo, who owes money to Kumi’s father, Daikou. Even though Kumi considers Ryo, her father’s mistress, to be a sworn enemy, she begins to feel something of a connection with her and so comes to the riverbank to see her. Ryo hates Daikou for suddenly demanding she give back all the money he had given her, but despite this she too begins to feel a connection to Kumi, in whom she sees something of her own past. One day, Kumi meets Riyu, 17, a victim of online bullying. Unlike Kumi, Riyu continues to go to school despite a falling out with her ex-best friend, Saki. Kumi’s indifference proves strangely enticing to Riyu. Kumi and her mother, Kasumi, 40, stopped communicating with each other a long time ago. Kumi is cold to her mother, whose mental state gradually deteriorates, but at the same time does not know how to express herself. Daikou struggles with an impending lawsuit against him. Kasumi tries to revive her family by behaving as if everything was normal. Saki wishes she could make up with Riyu. All of their thoughts intertwine. For Kumi time has stopped since she hit her father. Riyu suffers as she tries to graduate high school. Ryo projects her own past onto Kumi’s present. Will they manage to get their lives back on track?
Director: Claire Walka.
In the magic atmosphere of a summer night four different people stray around in the dark, looking for some joy or trying to overcome their melancholia. For some moments their paths cross and they get closer, but they also drift apart. In the end, they all get together by a tune that makes them feel connected, even if maybe only for this night.
THE INIGO FILM FESTIVAL (TIFF), is an international celebration of films on topics of faith and spirituality, taking place in rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
TIFF showcases short films made by filmmakers under age 35, covering a wide variety of interpretations on Festival's theme: "City of God." The Festival seeks filmmakers who successfully integrate their religious, spiritual, and social themes with the resources of film as a modern artistic medium.
Organized by the Catholic Church, World Youth Day is attended by millions looking to build bridges between continents, peoples and cultures. As such, accepted
TIFF films screen in front of what may likely be their largest international audience, guaranteeing tremendous exposure. Winning filmmakers will receive transportation to attend the Festival, and the opportunity to promote their films in person. TIFF will be honoring Festival winners with awards and cash prizes totaling 5000 (EUR).
MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
The mission of The Inigo Film Festival (TIFF) is summed up by a quote from John Paul II:
"The cinema enjoys a wealth of languages, a multiplicity of styles and a variety of narrative forms that are truly great: from realism to fable, from history to science fiction, from adventure to tragedy, from comedy to news, from animated cartoon to documentary. It thus offers an incomparable storehouse of expressive means for portraying the various areas in which the human being finds himself and for interpreting his inescapable calling to the beautiful, the universal and the absolute."
MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
TIFF films can explore spirituality, the experiences of today's youth, the presence or absence of God in our modern secularized world, or the twin
dimensions of faith and justice. The maximum running time for TIFF films is 20 minutes.
In addition to cash prizes, the Festival will be presenting an Audience Award, and “The Fidel Goetz Emerging Film Maker Award” recognizing the best film by
young film makers who do not have access to professional equipment.
If your film fits the festival, don't miss this chance to take your spiritual, illuminating, or religious film to Madrid...submit to The Inigo Film Festival today! www.tiffestival.org
