Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

"Spring Fever" Premiere

Last night, Director Lou Ye’s controversial film “SpringFever” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Taking place in Nanjing, China, the movie begins with the explicit sex scene between married man Wang Ping (WuWei)  andhis male lover Jiang Cheng (Qin Hao). His ‘secret’ affair is not assecret as he thought when he discovers that his wife Lin Xue (JiangJiaqi) has been having her husband followed by Luo Haitao(ChenSicheng). After fighting with Wang at home, Lin makes a scene atJiang’sworkplace which causes the spiral of jealousy, passion, anddrama.

The movie has juxtaposition of beautiful cinematography andshocking plot content. While the story itself was melancholy anddramatic, often times the slow pacing dragged on, making it seem a lotlonger than the actual running time of 115minutes. All in all, thestoryline was very touching yet the seemingly unending scenes were adistraction to the point of the movie.
