5,000+ admissions per day at 28th Cleveland fest

CLEVELANDERS SUPPORT OF 28th CLEVELAND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL CREATES RECORD BREAKING ATTENDANCE

• Saturday, March 20th was the second biggest day in Cleveland International Film Festival history, with 5,009 admissions. The biggest day in film festival history, with 5,200 admissions, was on Saturday, March 24, 2001 during the film festival's 25th anniversary year.
• There were eight sold out screenings and two of them had to be interlocked (put on two screens) to accommodate ticket buyers, so there were ten sold out theaters on Saturday.
• The entire 7:00 pm round of four films were put on Stand-By, which is a festival first.
• FilmSlam (the CIFF’s mini-festival for high school students), which takes place on weekday mornings during the festival), will set a record breaking week with over 3,300 students.
• Ticket sales are ahead this year for the festival. However tickets are still available for all screenings, including Stand-By films. (Stand By: Only two-thirds of the tickets to any film are sold in advance so that the festival can save room for the passholders. Therefore, even for “sold out” films, CIFF can accommodate many patrons just before showtime. Numbered Stand-By tickets are sold beginning one hour before showtime, outside the theater lobby. Then, ten minutes before the film begins, Stand-By ticket holders are admitted in numerical order, on a space-available basis until the theater is full.)

Founded in 1977, the Cleveland International Film Festival is the premier film event in the region. For eleven days every March, the Film Festival presents a full survey of contemporary filmmaking from around the world. This year the festival presents almost 90 feature films and over 70 short subjects from more than 50 countries to an audience expected to surpass 40,000. The Festival takes place March 18 through 28 at Tower City Cinemas on the Avenue at Tower City Center.

The Cleveland International Film Festival is a program of the Cleveland Film Society, which is a not-for-profit arts and education organization. The mission of the Cleveland Film Society is to promote artistically and culturally significant film arts through education and exhibition to enrich the life of the community.
